I agree that the recruiting is not where we need it. I also agree that the play calling needs to be improved, especially last game. All of these are problems that are fixable. Let's assume that Manny since he has started has made some changes but there are more to be made which he realizes.
I have to believe with all of Manny's talk of making the program better, he has to understand better than us, the issue with recruiting. I don't understand why this is so difficult to resolve. We clearly need to hire better recruiters and more people. If you look at some of the top programs, they have not just better recruiters, but also more people working on that then we do. I read that Alabama has like 10 people in their recruiting, but Oregon has only a few. I have no idea how many we actually have, but we need better and more. This is not that hard to change. You open up your wallet and pay for a top recruiting staff. The U has more than enough money to do this and with the ACC network, we will have more in the future. It seems to me that he had so much to do when he started that this will be the major focus in the off season.
As far as the play calling and coaching, this is the first year. They have too much inexperience to open the playbook and go wild. They should be increasing the number of plays as the year goes on and especially after this bye week. They clearly need to help out the tackles against some teams with the TE or RB. Don't be too stubborn to help them get thru the learning period. This is a situation that when the OL gets better (it will since it won't get worse) the plays will start working better. Too many mental errors still. Give the staff a year to get this resolved. We aren't going anywhere this year.
Go Canes.
