Miami Hurricanes right-handed pitcher Andrew Walters is a 2022 Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist, the NCBWA announced Thursday afternoon.
Walters is the lone reliever of the 39 candidates, who hail from 13 different conferences and 27 schools across the country.
The third-year sophomore is tied for fourth in the nation and leads the ACC with 13 saves. Walters holds the best ERA amongst hurlers with double-digit saves with a 0.32 mark through 28 innings.
Walters boasts a 13.25 strikeout-to-walk ratio, punching out 53 hitters and issuing four free passes. The Palm Bay, Fla., native has surrendered just eight hits, holding opponents to a .087 batting average.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound closer, who has totaled a 0.85 ERA with 89 strikeouts over 52 2/3 innings in his career, has helped No. 9 Miami (37-15, 18-9 ACC) claim the top spot in the ACC standings.
The NCBWA will announce the finalists on Thursday, June 9 with the winner being named on Friday, June 17.
