(1) Due Diligence - Lego Boy Blake disgraced the AD's office and this Program by lazily hiring Manny in 15 minutes over a kid's Lunchable and Capri Sun. The end result now after 3 years is a 5-5 Miami team, whose "defensive" head coach 7 years in, gave up a 70-80 yard drive to a 3-6 team with QB issues. We took our time with the Richt hire. It was a good hire, and we had a good 15-20 game run that vaulted us into the top-5 and on the verge of a CFP birth, even though CMR burned out at the end of his short coaching stint.
"Football Coach Committee" - The BOT needs to appoint what I would label a temporary "Football Coach Committee" ("FCC") comprised of the following:
- 1 BOT member
- 1 football alumni (someone like a Greg Olsen who was head of the NFLPA and is very good)
- 1 adminsitration official
- 1 former coach (Jimmy, Dennis, Wannstedt (knows South Florida), Butch etc.)
- 1 non-football successfull, respected, well-known alumni (doctor, lawyer/judge, CPA, CEO, etc.)
Hire the BEST search firm to investigate, vet, and compile a list of 5-10 head coaching candidates, and have the search firm provide the FCC with the list. You have 5 people on this FCC with different backgrounds and accordingly a melting pot of different respective thoughts, opinions, and ideas which can be put on the table when presented with the 5-10 coaching candidate list. The FCC works with, and for the new Athletic Director (who replaces Lego Boy Blake), and ultumately the new ATHLETIC DIRECTOR can truly make an INFORMED, BEST possible head coach hire for the Program.
That is how a man's football program goes about the man'y business of college football business. It takes time to exercise Due Diligence - fire Manny's ass NOW, and get the process going.
(2) Competing Programs - LSU... USC... (Possibly) UF... (Possibly) Texas... 1-2 others... There are going to be several B+ to A level programs who need a head coach. LSU did the RIGHT thing by parting ways with Ed O, and doing so has given LSU a HUGE advantage over other programs in pursuing head coaching candidates. Same with USC. Time for The U to do the same. We will have REAL competition for hiring great head coaches, and we need to get off our asses and get going.
(3) Rebuilding Relationships - This Program, through the BOT, ADs, and University Presidents, has spent the better part of the last 20 years SHITTING on this fan base. Fan attendance continues to suffer. Burned bridges with season ticket holders, lifelong loyal fans, and coaches/supporters in the local community. There is seemingly less interest in the Program now than when Coker was fired. There is no juice, no excitement, no buzz. All of this needs to change, and the marketing/alumni relations department of the University needs a massive overhaul to rebuilding relationships with everyone who has tirelessly tried to support this floundering Program for the last 20 years.
This Program is a sleeping giant begging to be awoken again to be great. The time for half-assing, pussyfooting, and testicle tickling our way to irrelevant 7-5/8-4/9-3 seasons each and every year with medicore coaching, needs to truly come to an end.
