After losing two scholarship players to transfer and in search of a big man to eventually take over for Tonye Jekiri, the Hurricanes are finalists for one of the country’s top available 2015 players.

Six-foot-10 center Ebuka Izundu, a native of Nigeria who played at Charlotte (N.C.) Victory Christian, will visit Miami this weekend, according to his coach, Dameon McCain. Izundu, who recently visited Tennessee, will check out Arkansas the next weekend.

After reclassifying from 2016 to 2015, Izundu signed with Charlotte. He was released from his scholarship after coach Alan Major was dismissed. Rivals rates him as a three-star prospect, while 247Sports considers him a four-star.

McCain, his coach, said in an email that Miami is a “great program” and that he is “very familiar with [Larranaga’s] coaching style and his love for athletic big men who are active around the basket.”

Asked what Izundu brings to the table, he had high praise. “He’s Chris Bosh on offense and Joakim Noah on the defensive end. He’s a lefty that runs like a deer, can check five positions and Miami’s aggressive style could be a great fit. … Ebuka’s effort combined with this staff could help him develop into an elite player in this conference.”

Izundu’s athleticism, shot-blocking and ability to score in the low post is on display in his highlight tape from 2013-14:
