1. Matt Campbell Iowa st 39yrs old
54-33 career 2 time (2017 & 2018) Big 12 COY
Dude is winning in Ames Iowa. He has taken down some of the conference heavy weights with far less talent. Dude is definition of doing more with less.
Has coached at Toledo and Iowa st. Comes from the Meyer coaching tree and is from ohio( where it seems most of the best college coaches come from). 3-1 in bowl games
Draw backs: never won a conference title even at Toledo. How would he handle recruiting in south fla. what type for staff would he choose.
2. Dino Babers Syracuse 57yrs old
54-33 1 MAC championship and 2018 ACC COY. Beat Clemson last year and almost beat them this yr. went 4-8 first 2 years at Syracuse and then this yr in year 3 9-3 with the potential to go 10-3 with win vs WV today in bowl game. 1-0 in only bowl game. Great motivator. Before Syracuse was bowling green HC
Draw backs: 57 years old , only 1 year younger than richt. Recruiting at Syracuse is nothing to write home about. 58th, 64th and now 60th. Can he recruit? Can he put together the right staff to be able to recruit down in south fla. I like Dino but he reminds me somewhat of Gary Patterson who I think wouldn’t be good at Miami. Gary is TCU which is in Dallas. With TCU success Gary should be pulling in higher ranked classes with the proximity to talent TCU has but they dont. I understand it Syracuse but even with the year we are having we are having better recruit success in NY then them.
3. Mario Cristobal Oregon 48yrs old
35-52 1-2 in bowls and 1 sun belt championship
I know most would have thought I would have Mario at #1. Fact is he might be best choice. Has coached under some really good coaches. Latest to come from Saban tree. He is beast on the trail and is prob one of the best HC recruiters in the business now. Knows how to put together a staff. Would have Miami not just in on or pulling the south fla studs but also top kids in the nation. Oline would be a strength. Offense and defense would fit Miami and he would bring possibly what Miami has sorely lacked and that is stability and longevity at HC because he wouldn’t run for the NFL or another job. In his 1st year has landed Oregon’s best recruiting class EVER ( according to rivals and other sites )
Drawbacks: overall record. Game day coaching.
4. Jeff Brohm Purdue 47yrs old
43-22 , 2 C-USA championships 3-0 in bowl games so far
Young up and coming coach. Great offensive mind. Sig win vs Ohio st this year.
Turned down alma mater to stay at Purdue.
Wouldn’t have a issue with getting our wrs/playmakers the ball in space. Wouldn’t have a 5 star like Pope going the whole YEAR with only 1 catch. Our playmakers would get the ball( see rondale Moore). Before Purdue was west Kentucky HC
Drawbacks: could be in line for big payday from bigger school that’s why I have him down further on list. Already makes close to $4million /yr at Purdue a much less stressful job than Miami. Can he recruit south fla? He did pull Rondale Moore who at one time was committed to Tom Herman and Texas and got him out of Kentucky away from Mark Stoops too.
5. Mile Norvell 37
26-14 0-3 in bowl games
Dude can flat out coach offense. Since he has been at memphis their Offense has always been top 10 nationally. He is up there with Lincoln Riley and Kliff Kingsbury except unlike them he comes from the guz Malzahn tree not mike leach. Has built a offensive machine at Memphis and is putting out college offensive record breaking talent like NFL wr Anthony Miller and soon to be NFL draft pick RB Darrell Henderson. Even though he calls the plays 2 of his OCS are already OCS at 2 big time schools ( Chip Long Notre Dame and Kenny Dillingham Auburn).
Drawbacks: 0-3 in bowl games. Only been a HC 3 yrs and that has been at Memphis. Does he care about defense lol! Can he recruit south fla?
@gferman pin this, I have a feeling we are going to need it next yr
