The houses on the Rez are in disrepair. Its so bad 2,3 families live under one roof. Numerous health problems exist; High BP, heart disease, stroke, diabetes. The root of the problem is alcohol abuse which is directly related to depression, indignations & oppression. Yet the govt does absolutely zippo, nada.
On the Pine Ridge Rez in South Dakota and where the Oglala Sioux reside, its so easy for Indians to purchase alcohol. All they have to do is walk a mile or 2 then they are in White clay, Nebraska where there is a plethora of liquor stores and new ones opening on a regular basis. The only ones benefitting are the owners of the stores and the state of Nebraska. Might as well be called White KKKlay. Systemic racism does exist towards the Rez. A couple of months ago, a number of Oglala Sioux used their initiative and set up road blocks to prevent unauthorized entry to the Rez due to the Pandemic crisis. The gov of SD demanded they take down the road block but it is still there and still maintained by responsible members of the Rez. They are still waiting for PPE, hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes. So much for this country being great.
