Of course, technology is only as good as the end user so Miami needs to hire the AD and coaches they want for all sports, but in order to improve the coaches decision making they need more accurate information, and most importantly, a database.
We are finally going to get some quality coaches experience things that we don't want to forget such as plays or schemes that worked against similar types of offenses or defenses. We need better analytics that help coaches know what to do when it is 4th and 17 or 4th and 14 such as call a timeout needs to be mandatory especially in the 4th quarter to speak to your teams mental awareness of down and distance before calling the next play that is known to work in such situations. As a programmer all you do is ask what if questions based on scenarios and allow the coach to determine what plays to call ahead of time based on certain looks or downs and distance.
If you don't have the right information and do not have predetermined solutions created by the coaching staff you are always at a disadvantage. Nick Saban is great, but make no mistake that there is a vault of knowledge made up of previous coaching staff decision makings which is why it is hard for previous coaches to beat Saban unless they run their program like a CEO allowing the OC and DC to design the plays. If one of his previous coaches designs a play or scheme then their habits are easier to identify thus allowing better analytics based on learned knowledge.
Eventually, using AI will be like playing chess with a computer as your partner. You would be the world champion at chess if you were the only one with a computer as a partner. Since everyone else has a computer we need to make sure ours provides the most accurate and reliable information quickly.
