Biggest GOAT in their sport??

You two should get a room, lol.
It's all good and just for fun. GOAT is very subjective and usually comes down to who was your favorite growing up. If he starts bagging on Wilt though, Mike and I will be meeting at the local Wachovia. Lol.

I was a fan of the old Minneapolis Lakers when I was young, then a Celtics fan during the Bird/McHale era. Jerry West was my favorite player so I was even a fan of Wilt when he West and Gail Goodrich won a record 33 consecutive games in LA. Greatest team ever!

Maybe I should join them. Russell is #1 in all sports

Mike, since you must be close to my age, I was wondering if you ever saw Oscar play. He was truly amazing, and I believe he was the first NBA player to average a triple double for an entire season even though back then no one kept track of this stat

Now we're talking. Ha ha. Wilt was larger than life in so many ways and yes, that was a great Lakers team. Glad I grew up in the era that I did with Wilt, Jim Brown, Ali and so many others that made me love sports so much.

Can you even imagine the number of triple doubles that Wilt would have gotten had they counted blocked shots back then? Not to take anything away from Oscar as he was an amazing player as well.

Other than some football players I have known and perhaps Shaq, Wilt at 7'2 and around 300#was the biggest human being I have ever seen and he was very athletic except for shooting free throws. Too bad he couldn't figure out a way to beat Russell who was just 6'9". The first season tickets my dad and I had were first row behind the hoop in the old Boston Garden. we got them in 1960. One game Wilt got into a skirmish with Sam Jones who was maybe 6'4' including the stool he used to ward off Wilt. It was a photo I'd love to have...looked like Paul Bunyon vs Beaver Cleaver

Remember Oscar well. He and West were the dominate college players in their day and went 1-2 in the 1960 draft. Both had great careers and fi nished with almost identical points scored in their NBA careers.

I was a Giants fan back then and loved to watch Brown and Sam Huff go head-to-head. Then there was Ali, my favorite athlete of of all-time. Will never forgot the "Thrilla in Manila" and the "Rumble in the Jungle". The rope-a-dope strategy won him a couple big fights but I think it caused most of his mental issues later on. He took a real pounding laying on the ropes.

My grandpa took me a few times to see Ali train when I was really little. He was the neatest thing I had ever seen and had charisma like no other. I agree that he took a tremendous amount of punishment, especially later in his career. I know it worked but who comes up with a plan to just let Big George tee off on you in a ring?
