Miami Killian High School DB Sheldrick Redwine was a surprise visitor on Miami's campus this weekend, taking the trip with his family.

The visit was set up on Thursday, and the Canes offered him a scholarship during the time on campus.

"My visit went real well," Redwine, presently a Louisville commitment, told CaneSport. "The best part was just hanging out with the players and getting to know the coaches."

Redwine spent a lot of time with coaches Paul Williams and Al Golden.

"Coach Williams, he was talking about how they want to bring in bigger corners, faster corners because they're losing a lot," Redwine said. "Coach Golden - he said that he'd love to have me on the team, that me and Jaquan back together, we can try to bring back Miami football."

Redwine entered the visit a Louisville commitment - he pledged there last month before briefly decommitting and then recommitting.

He says he's "going to wait till signing day to release" where he's attending college.

And he says UM is very much in it along with Louisville.

"It'll be my overall feel between the two schools," he says, adding that distance isn't a factor.

Redwine, who grew up a Cane fan, says he's not bothered by Miami waiting to offer him until this weekend.

His host on the Miami visit was his former teammate and good friend Jaquan Johnson.

"He wants me at Miami with him, he was pushing Miami, telling me all great things about it there - it was very positive," Redwine said.

Redwine says he knows for sure now where he wants to go but that "I'll let it be known on signing day."

What does Redwine see ahead for the Cane program?

"I see them going in a very positive direction," Redwine said.

Redwine's stepfather, Derrick Lordeus, also was on the visit and said "It went well."

He says Redwine wasn't seriously on Miami's radar until last week.

"They set up the visit for him at the 11th hour, on Thursday," Lordeus said. "We had a feeling about it, spoke with them a few days earlier."

Lordeus says he was impressed by Golden on the visit.

"I thought he was very honest with the way things turned out, was very straightforward, answered the difficult questions," Lordeus said. "I asked about stability, what Miami has to offer vs. other schools."

Asked if he'd be surprised if Redwine picks UM in the end, Lordeus said, "No."

Redwine finished this past season with six interceptions and two fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown).

"He's got uncoachable thing about him, meaning no one can teach him to be 6-foot-2, teach him to bend," Killian High coach Cory Johnson said. "Those things, there's a high demand for him. Everyone wants to go bigger at corner, wants length as receivers get bigger. He's long, he can bend and he can change direction like a 5-11 kid, which makes him so unique.
"He's just naturally talented. His best football is way ahead of him. He's still like a kid having fun. The kid's 6-2, can run and jump and bend. It was just a matter of time before people started seeing it."

Johnson has spoken with Redwine since the visit and says "he's really thinking a lot, soaking it in."

Would the coach be surprised if he picks UM?

"It would not surprise me, because he grew up in Miami and he's a hometown kid," Johnson said. "His family, coaches, all we do is talk UM football. We're big, big UM fans."
