At this point, denying Russian interference simply makes you a complicit asset of Russian intelligence efforts.

Assessing Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent US Elections

Key Judgments

  • Russian efforts to influence the 2016 US presidential election represent the most recent expression of Moscow’s longstanding desire to undermine the US-led liberal democratic order, but these activities demonstrated a significant escalation in directness, level of activity, and scope of effort compared to previous operations. We assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election. Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump. We have high confidence in these judgments

  • We also assess Putin and the Russian Government aspired to help President-elect Trump’s election chances when possible by discrediting Secretary Clinton and publicly contrasting her unfavorably to him. All three agencies agree with this judgment. CIA and FBI have high confidence in this judgment; NSA has moderate confidence. 

  • Moscow’s approach evolved over the course of the campaign based on Russia’s understanding of the electoral prospects of the two main candidates. When it appeared to Moscow that Secretary Clinton was likely to win the election, the Russian influence campaign began to focus more on undermining her future presidency. 

  • Further information has come to light since Election Day that, when combined with Russian behavior since early November 2016, increases our confidence in our assessments of Russian motivations and goals.

  • Moscow’s influence campaign followed a Russian messaging strategy that blends covert intelligence operations—such as cyber activity—with overt efforts by Russian Government agencies, state-funded media, third-party intermediaries, and paid social media users or “trolls.” Russia, like its Soviet predecessor, has a history of conducting covert influence campaigns focused on US presidential elections that have used intelligence officers and agents and press placements to disparage candidates perceived as hostile to the Kremlin. 

  • Russia’s intelligence services conducted cyber operations against targets associated with the 2016 US presidential election, including targets associated with both major US political parties. 

  • We assess with high confidence that Russian military intelligence (General Staff Main Intelligence Directorate or GRU) used the Guccifer 2.0 persona and DCLeaks.com to release US victim data obtained in cyber operations publicly and in exclusives to media outlets and relayed material to WikiLeaks.

  • Russian intelligence obtained and maintained access to elements of multiple US state or local electoral boards. DHS assesses that the types of systems Russian actors targeted or compromised were not involved in vote tallying. 

  • Russia’s state-run propaganda machine contributed to the influence campaign by serving as a platform for Kremlin messaging to Russian and international audiences.

Lot of words that mean nothing , Russia has been doing this for years..
Bottom line no evidence it changed the results...

Back when conservatives were about ideas - they hated the Russians. Now that they are about race and culture, they seem to dislike the Chinese. Funny how that worked out.

Yeah not like the Democrats they put their boot on the necks of blacks from right after the civil war and just kept it there.

Everyone knows the parties have reversed roles on race relations over the past 5 decades. For evidence, just look at how many non-white people vote Republican and that should tell you all you need to know about why racism and xenophobia are losing issues for Republicans.

Nah, nothing has changed. The democratic party has always been the party oppression. First it was slavery, then the jim crow south, then opposing civil rights, now its oppression thru government dependence. Same shit, different strategy.

If that were true then most non-white voters would vote Republican. The fact that they don't suggests you're simply (and disingenuously) attempting to blame anyone but Republicans for the fact that they are broadly viewed as a culturally homogenous party built around conservative white identity; hence the race baiting and xenophobia we see on a daily basis from not just Trumpers, but also traditional conservatives. If no one outside of primarily white males votes for one party then maybe that party needs to take a long hard look in the mirror to see what its doing wrong, and make the necessary corrections.

And how has this worked out for these minority communities. I don’t agree with the role reversal either. Civil rights act was filibustered by the Democrats just for one example. George Wallace a Democrat Robert Byrd you know the guy Joe Biden eulogized.

It is true. dems supported slavery...check. dems supported Jim crow...check. dems opposed civil rights....check.
Dems have reaped havoc and destroyed and oppressed minority communities with there policies of oppression since civil rights...check.

All true

Republicans have fought against your oppression every time you switch tactics.

That's like saying the United States was founded on the ultimate double standard - it was formed by slave owners who wanted to be free. What transpired centuries ago may be interesting to history buffs, but if you're looking at the present, there's little debate as to shallow cultural gene pool that represents the Republican party of the present. At least in Reagan's day, there was a perception that it stood for freedom and liberty - now it just seems to stand for full on racism and xenophobia that is being driven by the demagogues on Fox and Talk Radio and implemented by banana republic dictators like Trump.

It hasn't worked out for most Americans, since the rich only get richer at the expense off the backs of the middle class and at the expense of the poor. Therefore historically disenfranchised groups are less likely to make any progress until the system is changed to balance the playing field for all.

You mean until we adopt socialism. Then we are all going to be frolicking in the flowers together without a care in the world because AOC is taking care of us.

This is why we never make progress in this country. There are people out there hurting financially and people's response is to make a mockery of things.

Perfect example of how you and the Democrat controlled media try to use race and fear to distort facts. It wont work much longer.

If you don't like freedom of the press then that's not something I can help you with.

Lol. Free press is dead. There is no press. Just lib propaganda.

Hence the drift towards fascism among Republicans. You can't control the media to say what you want it to, and have now taken to discrediting it. Russia, Turkey or Hungary may be better options for you.

Its plain to see this is already the next tactic switch with the Democrats. Oppression thru socialism is next up to bat.

Wrong. Europe is free (except Hungary) and are largely social democratic - free healthcare and a strong social safety net, where the rich pay their fair share in taxes. That's reasonable policy that all reasonable Americans can get behind.

Good to see how you are framing your next oppression of people and how you will try to trick them into obedience.

Paranoia and ignorance doesn't seem to suit you. Try educating yourself about some of these issues and come back and try again.

Lol. Your just like ANTIFA. somehow in your warped mind you dont realize your the oppressive facist.

There are 14 characteristics of fascism - Trump Republicans meet a vast majority of them. Don't make me embarrass you any further by listing them again.

Ahhhhhh. Thanks for giving up. Trying to be a condescending douche elitist in your retreat. Classic lib. Lol

I can go all day - if not for your intellectual cowardice and ignorance of course. Crack open a book or two and feel free to give it another shot. You're never too old to learn a thing or two.

I'll take your one liner and clown emoji as vindication that you can't rebut the litany of facts I posted.

There's only one party that is closely affiliated with xenophobia and racism - and it ain't the Dems.
Absolutely one of the more ignorant statements ever posted ... Congrats ... Dems been keeping minorities down forever ... no stats needs , just open your eyes and see what’s really going on in all Dem run cites ... u think Pelosi , Schumer , Schiff , Biden etc. really give a shit ... not saying Republicans give a shit either , but the Dems 💯 perpetuate racism .., it’s good business for them

Got it so yeah you don’t like what it said so it can’t be true and it’s dismissed. How very open minded and willing to observe evidence and facts lmao.

This is literally impossible given that people of color make up a large chunk of the Democratic Party. What you’re basically suggesting is that black people are actively working to keep themselves down through their own policy preferences, which is of course absurd and a known right wing talking point that gets commonly brainwashed into right wingers to keep them from confronting the real problem of systemic imbalances.

U keep thinking what your thinking and I’ll do the same ... I’m good w/ my thought process .. hope you truly feel the same... . and for my knowledge , are you implying that a group of minorities would never hold their own people down ???? Money and power is a very persuasive thing ( just watch Dateline or 20/20 sometime ... spouses killing spouses , biz partners killing each other , kids killing parents , etc.)... you seem to be a very narrow minded person who has no ability to think outside the box , but that’s just my own opinion
