Deejay Dallas talked about Manny Diaz’s emphasis on winning home games … which includes the previously reported running up to the top of the stadium in the spring while the Duke home loss from last year played on the video screens.
“We didn’t know where we were going at first,” Dallas said. “We get up, come in the Hecht, get dressed and they tell us `Be on the bus at this time.’ We get on the bus, everyone half asleep, sun’s still not up. On the way there me, I’m curious, have been curious since a little boy. I’m like trying to see where we’re going. I don’t like not knowing. We get on a highway - I start seeing sights I know from going up to the games. We take this cutoff into I don’t know where, where buses go. They stop the bus and Hard Rock is like 300 yards away, far. And they start blowing the whistle - `Everybody off the bus!’ We have to run into Hard Rock up the spiral to the very top. The spiral was the hardest part because your legs are already dead. As soon as you get to the top you’re like `Dang,’ then you have to go down, up and down and up and down. The whole time they have the Duke game playing. I’m like `Dang.’ … It was rough.”
The message that was hammered home?
“Home is our turf, and we shouldn’t lose on our turf,” Dallas said.
