This has been a problem the last 10+ years. We always seem to have a couple of impact players but for over a decade there as been too many holes at too many positions of need. We lock down one position of need but then have countless weaknesses in other areas. Then we address the weaknesses, which becomes our strength and now where we had solid/elite players at other postions becomes our weakness. I understand some positions are always going to be stronger than others but what we have completely lacked is consistancy, along with the obvioius Coaching. It's either top talent at one position and average to below average at many others. Until we fill our positions with above average to elite talent with solid back ups all around we will continue to suck.
Before players were scared to get injured because they knew the next guy was so good it would be hard for him to get back on the field once healthy. It's the complete opposite now. If we lose a solid player to an injury we are crossing our fingers he's back asap because we have no depth and below average players backing up the majority of our starters. RELOADING was a common theme around this program for 20+ years, which made us GREAT but now every year is a rebuilding year. Our roster has too many seat fillers year in and year out instead of solid/above average football players. I would think after 6-7 we have bottomed out and should start turning around but this staff has yet to show this on the field. We all know the stats, so no need to bring that up about current staff. This schedule looks very tough to me and after losing 5 impact starters to the NFL draft that were great impact players, I'm not sure if we hit the bottom. Not shocking this is probably the reason Vegas has our win total over/under at 5.5. Odds are in favor of going over the 5 wins but the reality is we are probably a 6-6 team and 7-5 at best. I'm not sure how many fans can see us going 10-2. There are 2 freebies on our schedule. The rest are toss ups to me. This year for sure is definitely going to be the most interesting year in a long time and we will have our answers on what direction this program is going by seasons end or even sooner with this staff. Season definitely can't get here any sooner.
