Don't allow words to speak louder than actions. If the BOT and the Administration care about football then this is what to expect.
10-4 finish means we won the rest of the conference games, won the ACCCG, and won a bowl game. Absolutely he deserves to stay, but he has not convinced me he is better than Ed Ogeron. It is a start and if he can make practice harder than the games rather than easier we might have a chance to turn the corner. There is no turning the corner IMO without finishing the rest of the year on a 8 game winning streak.
9-4 means we won the rest of the games including the bowl game, but did not get to play in the ACCCG because of our conference record. Not enough to keep his job and a decision needs to be made based on the overall sample size. In particular, out of conference record is horrendous and ACC record is mediocre. However, style points will go a long way in saving his job especially if Manny can get his defense to playing at an elite level and we start dominating teams before the season ends.
8-5 means we lose one more game to finish the season. Same as 9-4 evaluation without the option for style points.
Anything less does not need to be explained.
Manny is obviously learning on the job and unfortunately, it shows up in the wins and losses column.
Some rumors have swirled around that change is taking place during the regular season such as T-Rob is calling the plays allowing Diaz to be more of a CEO, and 1s vs 1s, and live tackling. Of course, all of these are rumors, but it does make sense to make the changes you planned to make sooner as the timeline obviously had to move up. Regardless, we have to decide what to do with Manny
I remember watching the @mshodell mock that playing our freshmen could eratically result in a busted play by a freshman could result in a gamewinning turnover. Well, that happened on James Williams Int as he was clearly out of position, and the ball is thrown behind the receiver. If it is thrown in front of the receiver we have a different result.
This is the ACC Coastal where there literally is absolute parity.
These next four games are the perfect sample size needed to watch the progression of the team. Are we going to finally start playing better defense meaning we give up a grand total of 400 yards or less. It is hard to imagine that a few years ago we were holding teams to 200 yards per game. That was when Diaz trusted freshmen like Quarterman, Pinkney, and McCloud because he had no other choice. We need to either go with Ragone and a true freshman because it is the LB and Strikers that are constantly out of position and cannot help the DLs set the edge or fill the right run gap. Ragone is no different that Clemson's Renfro who only need to catch the ball, all Ragone needs to do is make a tackle and he can do this better than any LB on the team who is seems to be freelancing on every play.
If Manny is retained then he will need to replace both Patke and Ishmael, because that entire middle group of the defense is absolutely horrendous. Same goes for DVD, TE and maybe even OL coaches if there are upgradable solutions out there.
