We cannot splinter because our once proud program historically known as the best pipeline to the NFL has fallen into hard times.
Look around and see other blue blood programs are just like us. The only difference is looking at this year as a rebuild. The New Miami is under construction and under development.
You don't call playaction with one timeout left and one minute to score. This is the equivalent of doing a pump fake in basketball with 0.2 seconds to shoot the game winning shot. NO ONE GETTING PAID THIS MUCH DOES THIS!!♤♤
DEFENSE. Just put a new meaning to MIA
Right now nothing is working. The effort is always there and it is not right to play this hard and no one be held accountable for the losses.
If you are talking about team needs. It has to N'Kosi Perry. No one is getting any shine with Jarren Williams as the QB. Nothing clicks when he is in the pocket other than pocket change. He always checks down even when the defense is busted or underthrows a streaking receiver. He sees vertical routes late which has bottlenecked the offense with no explosive plays from his passing or running.
Jarren is too safe.
N'Kosi Perry on the other hand is a gunslinger for good and bad. A gunslinger is ready to pull the trigger quickly which aids your OL pass protection. The best gunslingers are accurate with their first read (hot route and right protection). Perry occasionally is not on the same page with his first read or occasionally stares down his first read (THINGS JARREN WILLIAMS DOES BETTER THAN ANYONE IN THE NATION UNTIL YESTERDAY.)
What Jarren Williams does better than anyone else in the nation is something that you can teach (efficiency ~ mechanics). What N'Kosi Perry does better than anyone one the team is move the ball vertically. Effectiveness vs Efficiency. Jarren is efficient. Perry is effective.
If Dan Enos is worth a penny he better figure out how to attack vertically with Perry using multiple weapons like the TE fake WR screen pass block that actually ended up throwing to Jordan for a big gain.
Most importantly, Jeff Thomas finally got to take the top off. We have weapons and Jarren doesn't get the ball to them in open space.
Final disclaimer. I am not saying N'Kosi Perry is the savior. I finally came back to reality and saw that we suck so bad that ONLY JALEN HURTS could save this offense and we don't have that on our roster.
I'm shakey on Perry because I know he is greedy and will never just take what the defense gives him unless it's for big yards. We have some exceptional TE. We need to run more plays such as the one described earlier or more max protection looks with the TE or RB releasing late with one man to beat in open space (similar to a screen with the exception that the OL never relent their pass protection). Worst case scenario after the release either the TE or RB catch the ball for a short gain or the turn into blockers if the QB is scrambling. Be dynamic not anemic!!!
In college, a gunslinger should not be limited. He should be developing mechanically and hope to God kid actually wants to win at Miami like Jarren Williams. Jarren does all the little things extremely well, but he sees the field at play late.
You have to control Perry by play selection. He wants to go deep all the time and quite frankly everyone does fanbase included. Have a system in which rewards Perry by dialing multiple vertical after completing so many crossing routes. Let him take his shots and go down guns blazing than on my knees begging for us to complete a vertical route longer than 20 yards.
I just feel like we have been robbed because this defense is not good at all, and we need more than a game manager to win 5 games this season.
If Perry has matured and Dan Enos is worth a penny then putting Perry in should give us at least 5 more wins based off of the thorn in the side of our flesh Jon Richt AKA the worst QB coach ever. There has to be tangible evidence of why Dan Enos is worth a penny. We are 2-3 (0-2).
Same thing for Baker. Too much money being made to have identical results and possibly worse than last year.
If Diaz is the man we hope he is then he needs to demand effectiveness from his staff especially if he demands effort from his players.
He doesn't need to fire anyone, but he needs to make effectiveness a priority without giving up efficiency.
