I feel this off season has become more like that than any I can remember. We have a lame duck coach offering everybody and his brother and getting commitments which at this time mean nothing . When I hear of these good players committing I want to feel good but logic tempers that . We have essentially no differences in the coaches but rumors fly that they will try to change their methods after justifying them and achieving failure last year and discounting the hoards of criticism as noise further alienating the fan base.
So much is in flux this year. A new president whose involvement and decisions about athletics are yet to be determined. A coach whose buyout as time goes on gets more manageable. A team which tanked the end of the season now acting like all is good now.
Its all smoke and mirrors at this point. Its Gary's job to steer us through the fog into reality.He is reporting all this recruiting activity but tempering us as to expectations. I hope that next season will be the first time I have been pleasantly surprised about this team since the win over UCLA under Butch. Thats a long time to hope but thats all thats left now.
The best thing about next season is the outcome might be the springboard to future success. Golden wins the coastal .The defense starts to dominate and he stays. Or Golden fails and is replaced. I am unable to think of any other scenarios.My sense of self preservation wont let me.
