Final Update:
Brutal loss tonight, Caniacs...shut out at home first time all year and lose the Coastal lead to VT...if the Hokies beat Duke Saturday they win the regular season whether we win or not.
At least that's the way I see it.
We ran into better pitching tonight and it was the Irish' turn to get clutch hits via HRs...
Final Line Score:
And we get shut out for the first time this season....brutal loss...we had to win to keep VT off our heels...not only do we lose...but we get shutout...
Meanwhile, with the W...ND just jumped Louisville in the Atlantic standings .615 to .603 W%...
PITCHING
Ligon took the loss...he lasted only 5 innings...gave up 4 hits, 2 HRs, 3 runs, all earned...
HITTING
We were held to just 5 hits...and Gutierrez had 2 of them...
FIELDING
At least we didn't make any Es...
SCORING
T1: ND hits a solo HR
T5: ND smokes a 2-run HR
T8: ND singles in a run
T9: ND gets another solo HR
PLAY OF THE GAME (in this case, the whole game)
Sensational pitching by ND that kept us off balance all night...we could get anything going and when we did...they're pitching came through again...
STAT OF THE GAME
On the second to last game of the year, shut out for the first time. Game stats are here.
RECORDS
Miami falls to 38-16, 18-9/ACC while ND improves to 33-12 overall and 16-10/ACC
UP NEXT
Game 3 at The Light is Saturday at 1 pm. What's the mindset of our team going to be? Pack it in or come back out and win the series???
WHERE ARE WE WITH THE COASTAL RACE?
So, here's where we are on 5-20-22...
VT has now jumped us in the standings...
BOTTOM LINE
It comes down to this: We have to win Game 3 and VT has to lose for us to win the title. If VT wins, it's over....simple as that. At least, that's how I see it.
Take a look at what's happened to these 2 teams since April 14 when we played Game 1 at VT to Game 2 vs ND...basically 5 weeks ago...IF I did my math right covering our last 21 games:
On April 14 at VT Prior to Game 1 the ACC Records
UM: 13-2
VT: 7-6
Since April 14 in the ACC
UM: 6-8
VT: 11-3
In Our Last 5 Games
UM: 1-4
VT: 5-0
Overall Records since April 14 and Game 1 at VT to Game 2 vs ND
UM: 11-10
VT: 18-3
ACC SERIES Wins Since Mid-March
UM: 6-3 overall, but 1-3 since VT series (not counting ND)
Since being swept at GT March 11-13: 8-0 (Counting Duke)
That's it in a nutshell, Caniacs...
Thanks for being a part of this thread...
Back Saturday...
Go Canes!
-----------------------
Happy Friday, Caniacs!
The weekend is finally upon us....it's Game 2 at The light in the regular season-ending series...
No. 9 Miami is 38-15 over, 19-9/ACC and in first place of the Coastal Division meets No. 14 Notre Dame 32-12 overall and 15-10, good enough for 2nd place in the Coastal Division now 2 games behind Louisville.
We go for conference win No. 20 tonight and I believe if we get the W we may clinch the ACC title. If anyone can confirm or dispute please chime in.
