Some good looking match ups coming the second Saturday in October
Jalen Ramsey - vs a combination of Scott, Coley, and Berrios. Berrios slipped by Ramsey and had a TD catch in the end zone until he dropped it on his own accord. This guy number 8 needs to be accounted for on special teams as well as blitz pick ups. Easier said than done.
Roderick Johnson vs Chad Johnson two sophomores going at it. Id like to see Chad come with a vayring mix of speed rushes, bull rushes, and swim moves on passing downs. On 1st downs if Jelani is isn't in the playing a big DE Id like to see Chad maintain his C and A gaps. With a So. vs. So match up I'm sure Chad is aware its going to be judged much differently than if he was going against, lets say a redshirt senior.
Everett Golson vs Defense. Last time we saw Everett the Canes got blown out but not because of Everett throwing prowess but because our overall team D was really physically immature and inexperienced. The Irish ran for 380 yards with 5 rushing touchdowns plus they won the turnover battle 2-0. Everett was 17-22 on the day with 186 in the air and 51 rushing. Dallas Crawford, Deon Bush, Tracy Howard,Tyriq McCord, Raphael Kirby,and Jelani Hamilton saw action that game in Chicago and are now 2 years faster, stronger, better, bigger as seniors. Whether your'e for or against Golden and D'Onfrio you must recognize that creating a game plan with the 2015 versions of these guys has to give you much more confidence against Everett than the 2013 version of these guys.
Additionally, there was a reason Jameis Winston was The First pick in the draft. I watched the replay of the 2014 fsu-mia game yesterday on ESPNU and in the 2nd half he came out on fire. The velocity of his balls, the anticipation in which they were thrown, and the windows he was fittting them in was unreal. Despite that they only won by 4. Everett wont be able to make alot of those throws Winston did but probably is a little more of a threat to run. I'll take that though anyday.
Rudolph and Lane vs. Howard, Elder, Burns, Jenkins, and Bush. It felt like these guys had a better game against us last year than just 92 reception yards combined a 0 TDs combined. Ill expect them to be better this year though. Bush had an interception last year. It would be nice to see Burns, Jenkins, and Howard shine in this game.
