How's it going everyone!!! I'm currently living in ohio and I'm moving down to florida in a few months. I'm looking to be reasonably close to miami so that I can see my canes. I'm looking for a place that's safe and reasonably priced somehwere between 700-900 a month. I've been looking at fort lauderdale and it seems a little pricey. After doing some research I found parkland, cooper city, palmetto bay, and lake clarke shores, are supposed to be good places to live and aren't too far from miami. I was hoping some south floridians could give me some advice on a good place to live... Thanks soo much!!!

Don't know about Broward, but in Miami - Kendall, Westchester, Sweetwater... Those are decent areas, not too pricey.

What are you looking for? Apartment to rent? How many BR's? Working in South Florida or retiring? Or just coming for the season? Only 6 home games per season .. so distance shouldn't be a big issue. Include areas up to 100 miles north of Fort Lauderdale .. to give you a bigger market to look at. Maybe even a little further. Is that an issue?

FYI - $700-900/ month gets you in crack town in South Florida

Yeah I'm looking anywhere up to 100 miles from Miami or Fort Lauderdale and I just graduated I have about 20 grand saved up. I'm just looking for a one bedroom or studio to get me on my feet and even anything up to a grand I can afford. I have a few interviews lined up I just want to be somewhere decent until I get myself established. It's always been my dream to live in south Florida and go be a hurricane season ticket holder so I'm ditching my whole network family and friends to try and do this. Kind of nervous but it's exciting at the same time. Thanks for helping out you guys are awesome

If you're looking in Palm Beach County a general rule of thumb, stay west of I95. Everything east is usually very high end or very low end.

Thanks for the tip yeah from what I've read there is a lot of crime in certain areas. I grew up in a not so nice area so I don't mind being in that type of surrounding but I also have a lot of expensive stuff which I can't afford to get stolen.

You can find a studio by downtown Hollywood or hollywood beach for that price. Those cities your name are great for families but not for a young single guy. I would look for a studio by the beach or near a downtown area. Also it depends where you get a job. Traffic sucks down hear. I live in plantation. It's about 15 min from the stadium. It's a nice area not to far from downtown FTL and the beach but its more for families. Good Luck.

The Hammocks in West Kendall has a lot of rental complexes

Traffic however usually sucks

Palmetto Bay is a nice area. I have lived there. But for the price you are loking for probably Kendall or even the Grove you might find something under a grand as far as a studio/1 bed The grove area is very centralized not far from anything. Good luck and hope you make it in the Magic City!! lol I curently live in Homestead and thats where you will find best value for your dollar in my opinion but can be kind of far from everything.

Wow soo much feedback thanks everyone!!! Does anyone here work for any cool companies or recommend any fun jobs that pay decent. I forgot how annoying looking for jobs is and filtering through all the bs.

Good for you...

It would be better if you could find a roomie with a similar objective. That's what I did when I moved to Atlanta. I lived in a nicer area and was able to share the cost. I went to school with the guy so it was really a good deal that worked out for both of us.

Yeah I tried to get a roommate but none of my friends want to risk moving away from their families/friends or don't have a degree or like Miami as much as me haha. And I'm sorry this isn't the mainboard we aren't all millionaires hahah. But I'm single have a decent amount saved up and this may be my only chance to live my dream so I gotta take the risk now

Besides going to 6 UM home games - what are you interested in doing? Just graduated - what field ? what sort of job are you looking for? A nice area that puts you within striking distance of all of the major communities in South Florida is Boca Raton. Having that as a base while you get familiar with the region and track down the right job would be a safe approach. You can get a 1 BR in a nice complex in the $900 - $1000 range. That puts you in commuting distance for a job .. for the first year .. for the region covering West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale...where the stadium is. Tack on another 25 miles to downtown Miami.

During that first year then you have a nice base of operations .. and you put miles on getting familiar with each community and your job prospects .. until you find the right match. Each of the communities from WPB down to Miami have nice, renovated "downtown" areas with a good mix of bars, restaurants, and places where young people congregate. You don't have to be in South Beach to find a really nice atmosphere in South Florida. Good luck, you will have fun.

No no no ... I ;ve live in two of the 2 of the 3 places mentioned ... way too much traffic ... I don't mind traveling back in forth but not in stop & go traffic ............ I live in Key Largo and it only takes me 45 - 55 mins. to the center of Miami... people speak to you in English 1st and are always in a Keys state of mind. Pembroke Pines / Coral Springs in Broward.

hammocks area in west kendall has a lot of rentals as stated by someone above but expect traffic nightmares in the am and pm.

you may have to cough up a little more but the dadeland area has good condos and rentals and is next to metrorail which will get you to a lot of areas in miami. it is also a great area in itself and about 10mins from UM campus.

the south miami area near campus AND east of us1 is also an up and coming area with restaurants and so forth and centrally located and even closer to campus.

last but not least would be brickell which would cost more but is a great area to work and play. close to water, aaa arena, south beach, coconut grove etc.

Try Cypress Bend or Palm Aire in Pompano Beach. They got hit pretty hard by condo price drops so a lot of them are being rented inexpesinvely. Very nice area to boot and near 95 and Turnpike.

I'd also look at Boynton Beach.
