Last year we only had 3 linebackers that could play due to a barrage of injuries (jennings, steed, joyner were hurt and mccloud redshirted). we had to rely on true freshman like brooks and walk-ons like raggone to play meaningful minutes when pinckney got banged up. shaq is solid but not great and pinckney underperformed (missed a lot of tackles) and our stricker from last year finley did not play as good as in 2018 (missed a lot of tackles).
This year we have better competition and more athleticism. jennings, mccloud, brooks, and joyner all have some experience and provide more depth. Then you add high quality recruits like huff, cave and flagg to the equation you have at least a decent group. You should not see raggone playing against acc opponents this year. I feel sometimes experience is overrated, if guys do not develop or lack athletic qualities. If our dline hold the point, we have a lot of fast attack lbers that should feast and our strikers should be more athletic than finley. There will be more competition also at striker, and more speed. Hopefully our d-coordinator emphasizes tackling this year.
