Hope Canes Players Don't Protest

Do you really think i give a shyte what you or those kids think? IDGAF. But guess what, without the 200 people that give at my level, you don't have a team to cheer for. So STFU.
Cool, since I've been on the board, you've been a good-balanced poster & having said that, if it ever came to that, then you and the other 199 GC's have every right to stop giving because it's your $$$ and we'd have to see where the program is at that point...if it were to shut down, I guess that would be the next 30 for 30 on the U!!

Haha Well I was just using what you said about not having a team to cheer for and if that's the case then we'll all have to "Remember The Times" like MJ because they have the right not to stand and you and the Other GC's have the right not to donate

Why? Expressing how they feel is stepping outside of what master Golden Cane thinks is ok for those who throw, run and jump? Lmao.
It's not that. They have every right to express their views. Just the wrong place/forum. If they want to join BLM (or start their own version) and chant in the streets or on campus, by all means have at it. Just don't act like a dumbass when the national anthem is being played.

Once again this is not a constitutional question. The U is a private school. If they wanted too they could lawfully restrict the players from demonstrations during the National Anthem. And I think they should. There are plenty of other vehicles to use to advance a position or protest an issue. I would instruct the students that this is not a proper time or situation to advance their individual position and that during the playing of the anthem it is required that they respect the flag .
However I do not think that this situation will arise.

People do not realize how lucky you are till you live outside the USA. Be grateful. I have seen more of the world than most....

You can protest without fear of retribution. Go try that in the Middle East, Russia, etc....
No trials, no court system, etc....

However, being born in New York in the 1960's to Pakistani, Muslim Immigrants....my story is different especially after 9/11.

Going to UM in the 1980s, I never felt any racist connotations. Even today, I haven't seen anything either. Maybe because of being a Physician and we have assimilated extremely well....IMO, without losing our religious and cultural identity....however, many Muslims are being chastised. Why???? To vilify a whole religion or race is wrong...irrespective of your political beliefs.

OUR country is better than that. We are based on a few fundamental principals.....Equality....

Be proud of being an American. If you want to protest, you better have some solutions. It is easy to complain, but hard to fix the problems, overnight.

Live in Europe, live in the Middle East.....racism is rampant there too...people are dying in Syria because of war..innocent people...For what????

I say...if you don't like it here....GTFO!

God Bless the USA!!!!

It's not that cut & dry Doc..using your be grateful logic, Rosa Parks should've stayed in the back of the bus!! FOH They have the right to protest in peace just like you have the right not to like it!!

There is zero chance of that happening because the players aren't on the field until after the national anthem .

It would be devastating to the program if that happened so the coaches are smart making sure there's no chance.
Very good point.

True....

However, if you are a minority, then you know how it feels or can feel....racism is everywhere, but we are Americans....we are better than that....

Who determines what is the right time or place? What's right for you may not be right for them.

I've done my part for this Country and the flag. I have no problem with the protest. The problem with this country right now is that it refuses to admit wrongs and respect those who stand up to the majority. Leave is your standard reply. Why don't you try to listen to the issues and make an effort to understand.

I'm responding to the OP's original question about hoping the players don't protest.

I'm white so I appreciate that my perspective is different than if I were black.
The way I look at this issue regarding UM players and the anthem and the movement to protest police treatment, etc is this:

I only think of one thing...what's best for these kids?

Is it bitter rhetoric about treatment of young black men?
Or is it better to teach these young men to be responsible parents, treat women with respect and to be honest and hard working?

I think CMR has stated that the latter is his mission. Teaching these young men to be the best they can. These kids have a great opportunity to better themselves through athletics and education. I think that's what they should focus on, but that's just me.

Who determines what is the right time or place? What's right for you may not be right for them.
Just because a person has a right to do something doesn't make it right to do that something. There are better ways to make a point. And yeah if they want to, they can turn the whole game into a protest. Sure, why not. For that matter maybe they shouldn't even show up as their form of protest. That would be the really ballsy thing to do. Not some lame "look at me" disrespect of the flag.

So many of you are no

Who says you are right? They are not disrespecting the flag have they burned one? No. Do you even know what they are protesting? Better yet have you served in the military? I've noticed that many that have yelled the loudest about this issue have never served a day but are so damn patriotic

Thanks for your service. Now, that doesn't make you a "better" American than me. It also doesn't make your opinion about the flag more important than mine. It's my flag every bit as much as yours.

Sure they can act a fool at the playing of the national anthem. And I can choose not to contribute to their education as a result, although truthfully I probably wouldn't as that would hurt so many other kids that do the right thing every day and not just on game day.

Whatever he wrote originally, thought or said doesn't mean anything at this point. The American flag, Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem are symbols that patriotic Americans revere and honor. They all have their own meeting for each of us. To me it means I honor those who have given their lives and sacrificed so I can have freedom and liberty. And I also express gratitude for the opportunity to live in the greatest country in the world. It's not perfect, no one ever said it was.
I beg the difference you want to pick and choose what version of the anthem to agree with and put your definition of what the flag means to you above all but not look at the whole picture and for the record let me make an offensive, disrespectful and insulting song about you and then modify it to not be as offensive anymore and then criticize you for not standing even though the words to the song and what the veterans faught for was so you have the FREEDOM to not stand if you choose.SMH..

Never said it did. I just notice that those who yell the loudest never served. I can only speak for myself when I say being socially conscious is ok.

Btw thanks for the good healthy debate without name calling.

Well you specifically asked if I served in the military, so that's how it came across. But yes, thank you for the respectful debate!

Why disrespect the flag or our national anthem.a lot of blood from all races in America was shed to keep our flag flying.there's other ways to protest.
Yes this is true however all those different races of aren't treated the same on American soil.....AMERICAN SOIL!!!! The same country they died for, all because of their skin color?!?! Makes no sense at all

Nah. It isn't. I won't support a crybaby entitled kid disrespecting my flag. I wouldn't put up with my son doing it and I won't put up with an athlete who I am putting through school doing it. And if enough of us don't, you won't have a football team to cheer for because those donations go directly to scholarships, nothing else. Money talks, so shove THAT.
Lol and if I didn't serve in the military going on my 24th deployment next year you really think you'd have the freedoms to donate in the first place? UM is bigger than you and if I didn't have a team to cheer for because players stood up for what's right, my high school is right down the damn street and I've been a fan of that school well before I was a UM fan. So again shove that money right up there. Certain things money can buy but I'm sure you've never been oppressed so you couldn't relate you just try to act tough behind your little donations Fuk outta here

Thank you for your service. But the answer to your question is yes, as the military is bigger than you, much as you point out UM is bigger than I am. Respectfully, your military service makes you no better an American than me or anyone else, and gives you no special right AT ALL with regard to the issues we are discussing here, so get off your high horse and try to have a conversation.

Now that THAT's over with, you know nothing about me. If you did, I doubt you would speak to me the way you just did.

Never said it made me more American but your saying your donations are bigger than UM by saying I wouldn't have a team to cheer for if you take your donations.....I'm simply saying take your donations and let's see nobody's gonna cry if you take your donations just like I'll be replaced when I retire your donations will be replaced. Your talking to a war fighter who has over 3800 hrs in the seat of my A/C so it's kind of hard for me to think that one mans bigger than anything. So I simply say take your donations and bounce out if you want to stop peaceful protest.

Nah man that's not what I said. I said if enough donors stop donating (not just me) then there would be no team (at the very least it wouldn't be a team anyone would want to watch). People yell at each other in my section over people not taking their hats off during the anthem, I imagine the reaction to players sittting/kneeling wouldn't be positive. I have no problem with peaceful protest. But not if it means disrespecting the national anthem. I'm also not cool with burning the flag FWIW. But that's me, and we can agree to disagree. Peace.

My position has nothing to do with race. I would take the same position if a bunch of white boys disrespected the national anthem.

I said it once, and I am saying it again... They have a right to protest anything that's murderous to a certain group of people... This is what I spent 8 in the US Army for...

Actually anyone has the right to protest anything they want to protest about. Even in support of causes that have no merit. So there's that.

You know I am tired of hearing all of this shit. I live in Orlando FL. I am white and have many black friends who I would put my life on the line for if need be. But I am so tired of hearing BLM and any other group that is doing things for their agenda and not what is right. I knew a young man for 26 years we became great friends and he was even in my wedding. He was shot down here in Orlando Tuesday night by some f***ing cowards doing a drive by shooting. Rodney Watts was a good man, a good father, and a good friend that in the 26 years I knew him I never saw him be anything but nice to people. He went to play his lotto numbers and was killed. WHERE THE HELL IS ALL OF THE OUTRAGE FOR RODNEY YOU AGENDA SEEKING PEICE'S OF SHIT? HE WASN'T CARRING A GUN. HE WAS DOING ANYTHING WRONG. WHERE ARE YOU BLM? IT MUST BE OK FOR BLACKS TO KILL BLACKS. SO SORRY TO THINK IT MATTERED.

Hold up Jackson... I never said a dam thing about BLM... I served this country through Operation Just Cause, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm... Now, you wanna Call me that and you don't even know me... So, F**k Ya Mama, who birthed ya weak sorry gutless azz and water on the brain pappy... You don't know what deal I with everyday... I made it through combat zones 2 IED explosion, and 13 fire fights to come home to this Bulls**the that weak azz Americans like you whine about... I survive that... I'll survive jellyback like you... So, keep on hiding behind that keyboard... MF'S like you is the reason why this country is so screwed up...

I hope they do protest. Being a student, they prob won't be allowed to.
Like usmc stated.... I personally fought over seas so that these players (ppl in general) can have the choice (right) to protest. I even fought over seas so that the ppl that are bitching and complaining can have the right to do so. I rather ppl protest like this rather than riot.
This is the same reasom why Muhammad Ali protested the Vietnam War. Vietnamese never called him the N word.. Give me freedom or give me death!!!

I say black players you protest.. remember the canes never won a national championship without elite black players so watch your mouth all you Andre Johnson lovers..
