Compared to the teams of the past 5 season.
-OFFENSE. MR is an acknowledged master offensive tactician. His offenses at FSU and
UGA (when he was calling the plays) scored 40+ points per game generally. Always looked
for the mismatch and found it .. using slot receivers .. RB's on screens .. plus some smash
mouth football. No more "going slow so the defense doesn't have to come on the field". Up
tempo and creative. Is the Bubble Screen gone forever?
Clean up the penalties, improve the 3rd down conversions to "average" instead of bottom of the
NCAA , use the TE's more in the Red Zone. This offense SHOULD BE prolific and a lot of fun
to watch.
-DEFENSE. MD is certainly not "bend don't break". Kids should get fired up to play in his super
aggressive "attacking 4-3" where the front 7 are tasked with doing what defensive linemen and
linebackers are taught to do from Pop Warner on .. disrupt the opponent behind the LOS and
rack up tackles for loss and sacks. Create pressure that causes QB's to release the ball
prematurely .. setting the stage for INT's.
DB's will have a chance to play both man and zone coverage .. and will be tasked with showing
they can handle 1 on 1 coverage and lock down their zones. There WILL be misses for sure, but
we won't be sitting there while the QB simply reads and waits for somebody .. to eventually .. get open.
We won't be sitting there watching our D 8 back yards from the LOS .. giving up the underneath .. for the
entire game .. protecting the deep ball .. against Nebraska.
Can't wait for January 14 .. hot recruiting period again .. NSD on February 3rd to see if the staff can land 1-5 unexpected "dudes" at positions of need (DT, OLine, DBack). Mat Drills in February. Spring Ball, Canesfest, Spring Game. It is once again .. after it seems like a decade of pure frustration and negativity .. fun to actually look forward to UM football events .. rather than tolerate them. Go Canes!!!!!
