It basically gets summed up in what Hurlie said. Miami has to win back Miami.
@gferman says time and time again that the recruiting has not been good enough. Most of us always combat that with “ look at our recruiting rankings, the kids offer list and who we competing against to land the kid”
I think what Gary says and what Luke & Hurlie said last night tie together.
yes there has been an issue with development but there has also been a issue with recruiting. It’s not just about missing out on the top kids from South Fla, Miami has been missing out on the difference makers. Look at the list: Teddy Bridgewater, Lavonte David, Skai Moore, Keith brown , James burgess , Damon Arnette , Lamar Jackson, Charles Gaines , tutu atwell, Devonta freemen etc. I think you get the point. The list goes in forever.
no we can not get them all. There are going to be times when you can’t get everyone.
I think what is happening is the relationships with the high school coaches and trust is just not there. If a coach is saying hey look at this guy our coaches should be looking at that guy. There should be better scouting. Better trust between the highschool coaches and Miami coaches. We understand that if Miami gives an offer it’s viewed differently than an out state. And if Miami withdraws that offer it could have ramifications. But some kids like Earl little kid or Quincy Wilson should not be getting out of state offers before Miami offers. If the relationships with the high schools coaches was better and the scouting was better then guys like Anthony Walker from Pace and Skai Moore would be stars at Miami a not Northwestern or South Carolina.
the coaches need to win back Miami and that begins with getting the kids that are hungry. Those kids that the high schools coaches are telling you about and getting them in and developing them.
this comes with having a HC the coaches can trust, one that has or can build those relationships and brings stability
