Not so, says this piece in Bloomberg. Adding way more jobs than Texas or Florida. GDP growth also surpasses all other states in the last 5 years.

Lots of fires, homeless and droughts? No question. Dead economy? No.

My sister lives in Santa Monica. She's with a group that aids the homeless. What's sad is the number of homeless that are veterans. She made a point of telling that.

This is true and my niece is helping with this in San Francisco. Both parties are accountable for this in my view. They are each so hell bent on not allowing the other to get anything meaningful done, that very little that is meaningful actually gets done. The American people who they are supposed to work for pay the price. We need better limits on terms...and we need fresh blood. This is a huge problem.

Excellent point, Allied. The best studies I’ve read on homelessness shows 3 key groups in the homeless population: mentally ill; addictions/substance abuse; those who cannot afford rental housing.

No one silver bullet policy can address these 3 populations. Distressing. So discouraging when I drive to SF or Oakland and see the homeless encampments underneath the highways.

Our vets deserve much better...

With all the pork in some of these bills, can't they help our vets?

How did Cali get this baddddd ?😖
Their state financial situation has been bad for a long time. The state revenues apparently did not go for additional homeless shelters. There is no good excuse for these people living on the streets.

Allied, Shocking as it is, the California State government currently has a $75 billion surplus. That result is consistent with the Bloomberg article I posted above and absolutely contrary to the narrative that Cali residents are all moving away.

That said, Newsom’s proposed budget has lots of aid to the poor but no magical cure for homelessness. That chronic and complicated problem endures.

Well, they went from a 50+ Billion shortfall last year to a 70 + Billion surplus this year so there should be no excuse for not providing services to our homeless vets. Silicon valley was mostly responsible for the surplus this year. Now is the time to fix the problem while they have the money this year.

Don’t disagree with your POV. But, wht is the “fix”? Mental health, addiction and poverty issues just don’t disappear with an injection of cash.

I don't have the answer except to throw money at it so the experts can at least create programs that can get some of these people healed to the extent that they become productive members of mainstream society.
