I am sensing some Off-Week boredom on this board. I mean, it is getting to the point that some CaneSport members are actually starting to read some of Phlipper's threads. The other day, when Phlipper posted his 4277th Position Breakdown, 3 posters actually viewed the OP. Even though no one replied, that was a huge warning sign for me.

So here you go with a look at a couple of 2016 Cheerleader Recruits, (there are more to come in the following weeks). We also take a look back at the Class of 2012, who are now seniors and the leaders of our great squad.

Ryan Altopedi, Sacramento, CA- This new recruit has a very interesting back story. Ryan is not a recent high school graduate. After graduating high school in 2009, Ryan went to work in the "entertainment" industry. She worked as an exotic dancer in Reno, Las Vegas, and San Francisco performing under a variety of stage names including "Raven," "Craven," "Ryan Reynolds," and "Buddy Ryan." Although Ryan said she had a great deal of success in that industry and many of her fans saw a bright future for her, Ms. Altopedi decided to further her formal education and pursue a college degree.

Blessed with remarkable flexibility, it was determined by many school boosters that she was extremely limber as well as extremely accommodating. Ryan went to several cheerleader clinics and did very well in the tryouts. She was offered scholarships at several schools, often at the insistence of donors and members of the board of trustees. UNLV not only offered a full scholarship, but also a work-study job performing some to-be- determined duties for the Dean of Discipline. Ultimately, Ms. Altopedi chose Miami after a chance meeting with Vanilla Ice who was wearing a Miami baseball cap at the time. Mr. Van Winkle told Ryan "Word to your mother", which closed the deal as, in a remarkable coincidence, the elder Ms. Altopedi was a big fan of the Iceman.

In choosing Miami, Ryan turned down offers from UCLA, USC, Colorado, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Florida State in Tallahassee, Florida Correctional in Starke, the US Merchant Marine Academy, the French Foreign Legion, 3 federal prisons and the WWE.

Jordan Wells, Rehobeth Beach, DE. -The Canes made a big splash last Spring by landing 4-star recruit Jordan Wells, the highest rated recruit in the State of Delaware and one of the nation's few transgender cheerleaders. Wells had offers from dozens of Division 1 schools, including every college within 30 miles of San Francisco. When asked why she chose Miami, Wells replied: Duh!! South Beach?? Key West?? Sorry, Cornhuskers! Booorrrring!!!!

Much of the success in landing this prized recruit goes to former Cane Cheerleader and now Assistant Cheerleading Coach, Todd (Fay) Faye. CaneSport readers might remember that Fay, whose career at Miami got off to a rocky start when she, I mean he, was banned from the men's locker room (despite the staring rumors being unproven) but later emerged as a force on the squad, and his fashion and makeup tips brought many accolades to the team. Wells claimed that the close relationship she developed with Fay on her recruiting trips was the difference in choosing Miami.

For her official visit, Fay arranged for Wells to be hosted not by a current cheerleader, but by two members of the weightlifting team, which apparently made a strong impression on this prized recruit. Jordan, who was named after Jordan Marsh, her mother's favorite department store as a young woman, will major in fashion design, and will minor in Sequin Studies.

I will soon be providing profiles of three more 2016 recruits:
* Millie "Vanilli" Cincilli, who has an unusual method of performing her cheers, and
* Nomi & Stefanie Andreason- twin sisters from Sweden who turned down an offer from Hawaiian Tropics to enroll at Miami

Now, let's take a look back at the recruitment of our Seniors, the 2012 Miami Hurricane Football Cheerleader Recruits!

Tiffany "Rolls" Royce- Tiffany comes to Miami from Scarsdale Prep in Westchester County, NY. Tiffany, a 3-star recruit, thrilled the Miami Cheerleader Coaching Staff by flipping to Miami after being committed for several months to the University of Georgia. Tiffany had a change of heart after discovering, to her dismay, that UGA was in a small town called Athens, not in Atlanta, and nowhere near a Bloomingdales nor a Neiman Marcus. When asked about her decision to not attend Georgia, Tiffany, who will be pursuing a degree in Purchasing commented: "their loss."

In the "It's a small world" department, Tiffany received a late offer from Miami by coincidence shortly after her father's company agreed to sponsor this year's Miami cheerleading uniforms, athletic shoes and sports bras. Asked about her career plans, Tiffany said "I am going to be a buyer." "For a major department store chain?" she was asked, "For myself" she responded.

Conchita "Bananas" Garcia-Suarez- Miami may have gotten a steal (and we mean that literally) when it won a recruiting battle with FIU and FAU for this 5-star recruit out of Hialeah Miami-Lakes HS. Garcia-Suarez had been recruited by every great cheerleading school in the country before deciding to stay local. Many pundits thought that UCLA, Ohio State, Alabama, and Tennessee would be in the mix but "Bananas" made it an All-South Florida battle a few months ago.

"So why did you narrow it down to the 3 local schools?" Conchita was asked. Unfortunately, she was not at liberty to reveal that information at this time but she said that she would check with her probation officer about elaborating in the near future. She did say that all three schools were within 40 miles of her home in Hialeah and that played a role in her plea bargain, I mean, in her choice of schools. Unfortunately, Garcia-Suarez will have to cheer this year with a tracking device on her left ankle, and she will not be attending any road games.

Aisha Ayeedyah- This young lady out of West Deerborn (MI) HS is an intriguing 3-star recruit who should catch a few eyes on the Miami sidelines this year. Aisha is Miami's first known cheerleading recruit of Iranian descent and she... wait a minute.... hold on... what did you say?....OK..... Aisha is Miami's first known recruit of Persian descent and comes to us from Spartan and Wolverine territory in suburban Detroit. Aisha, whose father, Mohammed, is a prominent Detroit attorney, chose the Canes over NYU and the University of London. Her brother, Mohammed, is a walk-on Punter at Central Michigan and her cousin, Mohammed, is vying for the Place Kicking job at Kalamazoo State. One of the reasons Aisha chose Miami is that her uncle, Mohammed, attended UM on a cricket scholarship some years ago.

Aisha, who cheers and performs her stunts in full hijab and veil, will provide great diversity to the squad. When asked about Aisha wearing her traditional clothing on the sideline, Cheerleading Graduate Assistant Todd "Fay" Faye tapped his foot repeatedly and remarked "We'll just SEE about that, won't we?"

Angela Biggs- Now here is a first. This 3 star recruit will be the first female back row spotter in Miami Hurricane Cheerleader history. As we all know, the back row spotters who traditionally have had the tough jobs of catching the Flyers and providing the base for the Pyramid have almost exclusively been males. That will change this year as Biggs, a 6'1" 220 pounder out of East Stroudsburg, PA will help to ...uh... man the back line.

Angela, who threw the shot put and discus for her first high school before having to transfer due to a stalking charge involving a member of the girls tennis team, took up cheerleading as a Senior and quickly impressed recruiters up and down the East Coast. When asked what it was about cheerleading that attracted her, Biggs stated "Track & Field was kind of an individual sport and I always wanted to be part of a team. Now I am really enjoying being around so many girls, ...er... I mean, so many teammates. When I am standing there with my arms in the air looking up at my teammate above my face, I can't tell you what a thrill I get."

Lashonda "Oasis" Jackson- Keeping with the State if Miami recruiting theme, the Canes got a commit from this super 4 star recruit out of Miami Carol City High, beating out the likes of Florida, FSU, and Savannah State. Oasis, as she likes to be called, was recently selected Freshman Captain and graciously agreed to sit down for an interview.

Q. Hello. My name is Joer. Thank you for agreeing to this interview
A. What the hell kind of name is Joer? Are you Superman's daddy or somethin'?
Q. No, it's actually... never mind that. Why do they call you Oasis?
A. Because if you don't hurry this up, Y'Oasis mine, you undustan' that, Old Man?
Q. No problem, I just have a few questions. Why do you feel that you were selected freshmen captain? That's quite an honor.
A. An honor? Are you kiddin' me? Have you seen this bunch?
Q. Well, I agree, it's quite a diverse group.
A. What diverse group? A diverse group is what you got at the Pembroke Lakes Mall on Saturday afternoon. This is a sorriest bunch a fools I ever seen. You have no idea what I got to deal wit. I got one freak who look like she came scrate from the Russian weightliftin' team, some other knucklehead who is running around dressed like she wants a part in the next Aladdin movie, a damn convicted felon, two rich b*tches and God knows what else!
Q. How do you think the freshmen will do this year?
A. I think we'll do aw-ight, as long as that weightlifter keeps her damn hands away from me.
Q. How many of the recruits do you think.....?
A. Shut up Jorel. We done.

And there you have it. Make sure to bring your binoculars to the stadium! Go Canes!
