As most of you are aware, DeSantis approved the state to move into Phase 2 as of today. Most notably this allowed bars to open at 50% capacity. Palm Beach County (along with Dade and Broward) was excluded.
In petitioning the governor to allow PBC to enter phase 2 but hold back opening of bars due to ongoing protests the PBC Mayor Kerner who is a Democrat was quoted saying the following:
"In Palm Beach County, we're not prepared to have standalone bars open just yet," said Kerner.
Kerner added that county leaders are concerned about people consuming alcohol at those bars, then going out and joining protests that are happening in the wake of the police-involved death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
That doesn’t sound racist at all.
