On Gary's program. He coached and recruited Lbs for 3 seasons, 2016-2018. Quarterman, Pinckney & McCloud had decent Fr seasons but showed little to no improvement. 2017 signed Jennings, Steed, Wider who medically retired and a guy who is currently at Utah State, Patrick Joyner. In the fall of 2017 Joyner was moved to DE and redshirted. The following season he was moved to LB but saw no action. 2019 did not play a down. In fact he was often seen sitting on the bench or standing by himself. After he transferred to Utah State it was then revealed he played in a 3-4 defense in HS. Why wasnt he kept engaged??? Sitting on the bench and standing by yourself on the sidelines are HUGE red flags and that is a reflection on Manny.
He had 8 months to find LBs in the portal but wanted 2 year commitments. There were a handful of guys who expressed interest but ultimately they preferred 1 year. I wouldve taken 1 year guys. The point is you have to win for 2021. You have a potentially top ten recruiting class hanging in the balance. This next recruiting class, 2022 could very well set us up for the next 3-4 years. You bring in guys for 1 year and you have a shot at not only a 10 win season but a top ten class, including Quality LB recruits who would play from day 1.
Unfortunately, I am not seeing it if the current trend continues.
