The biggest hydroelectric dam in China .. the Three Gorges Dam .. built in the 90's .. is reportedly on the verge of failing and thousands have been evacuated. The dam was designed and built by a Chinese company (with 100% internal quality control). Upon completion .. and some questions about the adequacy of the construction (you know, some questions regarding concrete quality and rebar installation and welding) .. the Chinese government asked for some Western dam construction engineers to evaluate the project. The consensus was "it was not built to proper standards regarding concrete quality or rebar quality and installation .. and is at risk of failure". The Chinese government responded that that was a racist evaluation.

Interesting to look at the Yangtsze River .. Wuhan is one of the major rivers that it flows through as it flows East after the dam, heading to the ocean. Might this be an answer to the "open wet markets".

As it is a major hydroelectric facility .. the dams failure could have a significant impact on the Chinese development of AI which is dependent on intense computing power .. which has a huge electrical requirement both for running the computers and more critically for the cooling required (for that reason Googles Cloud computing installations are located almost adjacent to a hydroelectric facility .. and discounted power rates help them operate). Something to keep an eye on.
