Edited 4/19/16: So nobody gets confused, the post below was created back in November before Richt was hired. The person who resurrected this thread obviously spent most of the day looking for my old threads because like many others on here, I have also given him tons of deserved beatings over the course of the last four months as well as today and this is how that poster responds to adversity.

UM and the city of Miami are one of the most diverse places and schools in the country. I have been seeing many articles where Richt has allegedly gone to great lengths to shall we say "strongly" raise awareness of his religious beliefs on to others which includes community and athletes. Athens and Miami are worlds apart. Does anyone think that this may not raise huge questions for UM?

Nope... He would be a positive influence on his players and in the community. I've never seen where he has forced his faith on anyone else. He is bold in his faith which is to be admired not criticized. We need more Mark Richts in this world.

It is likely a major asset when recruiting tbh. Though I prefer it be kept private.
I agree when it comes to recruiting. But there have been many allegations on different occasions about his approach to spreading religion with the local communities in Georgia.

Nice try, won't work. He is very diverse as you can see by his recruiting. You are really messed up. Don't worry he won't try to convert you, hope he gives you a warning when he comes to your community.

Give me a break.....

What if he was a Muslim or an Atheist TCane, is that OK

It's a shame that folks forget the foundation that this country was founded on. Yes, Miami is diverse and yes Mark Richt is a Christian, but his beliefs and the efforts he has made to tell others about God should never be a reason to pass on him.

If you don't like him as a coach, fine, but this guy has never forced anything on anyone with regards to religion.

And by the way, you published your title here as if it has already become a factor. Pathetic agenda here...

This is as ridiculous as if I came on here and gave a candidate a hard time because he was a rabbi, yogi, cleric or whatever.

This is America bro, and Miami is still a piece of this great country that (regardless of who you worship) was founded on Christian principles. No religious belief should ever be a mark against anyone who is not forcing their beliefs on others.

Canerob, try Jewish. Having revealed this to you and after seeing your previous posts can you please limit your bigotry. Thanks buddy.

I have no problem at all with it and agree it might be an asset in certain recruiting situations. That said it should not be forced upon people that don't want to hear it.

As for some of these ridiculous posts above. Just like I respect the beliefs of Richt or whoever else, I respect those who choose not to believe.

diverse how? you know the religions of everyone on Ga team?

Well said and couldn't agree more.

Did I say anything negative about his religion? Do a Google search and see what I was referring to about multiple allegations levied against him.

3rd cane, with all due respect, you need a history lesson if you think this nation was founded on Christian principles. It was explicitly not founded on Christian principles. The notion of this being founded as a Christian nation is revisionist history that was propaganda cooked up in the 1950s in an effort to create lines of demarcation between us and communism.

lol if he was a Muslim you would be all over him...you talk about religious freedom but repeatedly state America is based on Christianity. Easy to talk tough when in the majority isn't it...don't play that game ...I could care less what his religion is. what about you. What is he didn't share your religion?would you be so supportive?

This issue is so stupid it really doesn't warrant a response. But, here goes nonetheless.

Look, Dabo is very publicly baptizing players at practice. Yeah, I find that absurd and I am uncomfortable with a State employee doing this while during or after practice, but who really cares if his players are willing participants and are not objecting? There is absolutely no indication that the players give a damn. If anything, HE IS WINNING AND ATTRACTING MORE PLAYERS TO CLEMSON EVERY DAY JUST AS RICHT DID. It has absolutely nothing to do with locale either; because both of these guys are getting players from some of the most diverse parts of the country. So, give it a rest on the religion bull. Being a Christian/Jewish/Muslim wouldn't make Richt or Dabo or anyone else qualified or unqualified for the job.

No I don't need to, do you know all the religions of everybody at the University of Miami and the City of Miami.
nope but I didn't say that he had diversity on his Ga team. You did...why did you say that? you know of non Christians on his team? It shouldn't matter to be honest what his religion is.

Listen just like you there are always going to be people that target religion, there is more of it each day. If it was up to your people there wouldn't be a Christmas or Easter.

Allegations of spreading the Gospel? Wow, guilty as charged...Since when did it become a crime or looked on in a negative light when someone shares Christ, feeds the hungry, clothes the poor and basically loves others. Sad that this is looked on negatively by some.

Completely true.

His post is muddled with contradiction, but I hate to engage on these issues.

I'm not familiar with the OP. My statement has nothing to do with other things he has said, I don't know what he has said in the past.

This OP is something that is a concern for me. Dabo Sweeney is another coach who really puts his religion out there and has been know to require players to attend religious services etc. I've heard Richt is similar. I don't care what the religion is, college and college football do not need to have religion involved with them. There was a story recently where Clinton Portis alleged that Jim Zorn gave preferential treatment to his players who shared his religious beliefs.

It's not a deal breaker by any means. Hell, Dabo is killing it with a religious foundation.

Bottom line is that religion is one of those things where you won't sway people's opinions so it is probably best kept out of the discussion.

Problem is he gets ALL his "history" from FOX n Glenn Beck

Exactly leave religion out of it. Did you here about the High School player that after he scored a TD he pointed to the sky and the Ref gave him a penalty for celebrating.

Apparently, the ref is a bigot, according to the OP.

There are always TCanes in every crowd.
You bet your ass there is. Its shows weakness by the knee jerk reaction some of you exhibited to take what I said as some kind of religious bashing. If the allegations are true, and you're fine with it, so be it. Many in this great country are not.

I said it because the OP brought up that Miami is very diverse like the rest of the world including the players on Georgia's team aren't.

This board needs some faith anyways. As if most of our recruits " momma's" wouldn't be all over this guy to take their children and influence them for the "good". No brainer. Good coach, man of real faith, ex-Cane. And when FSU was great against us decades ago... He was the offensive brain trust. Heathens...shut the hell up and keep sucking Barry's balls.
