Overall, I like the way that it looks from top to bottom. My initial thought was that we were going to somehow get screwing like we did this year with four tough games in a row and Virginia Tech on short week. looking at the schedule this afternoon, and how the teams we play next year, did this year, I think that we have a good, competitive, and manageable schedule.

Bethune to start the season is effectively a glorified scrimmage. Then we have an Arkansas State team on the road who is not a great team, but who did have eight wins this season with a dominating performance over Central Florida in their bowl game. Arkansas State is the type of game I expext to see a good competitive game early on, but us blowing them out as the game progresses.

Then comes Florida State on the road the next weekend, still in the first month. I completey agree with OrangeBowlMagic's analysis in his thread about the potential advantages we have with a new QB. Plus it's a rivalry game, and we have played them close a lot of times during this disgusting 6 game losing streak to them. so I expect that to be a tight one.

then we come back home and face a quality Toledo program which consistently wins 9 to 10 games every year. They are in a good recruiting state in Ohio, have a quality staff, and will be opponent who is to be respected. that said, the home-field advantage and possible momentum coming out of a Florida State game should give us a clear edge over them.

Duke on the road on a Friday night is tricky. it's a short week, we have to travel up to North Carolina, and you just never know with that team.

The bye week comes at a great time in my opinion – probably the best time. After Florida State, Toledo, and Duke three weeks in a row where winning 2 out of 3 will prove a challenge, the bye gives this team a great chance to rest up and exclusively focus on the flexbone triple option that is Georgia Tech. i've always been a major proponent of having a bye week before we play an anomaly team like Georgia Tech, and the schedule broke favorably for us in this respect. Georgia Tech at home, coming off of a bye, with these linebackers having seen it and played so well against it last year, will give us a tremendous advantage.

Then come Syracuse at home. I have no idea what to expect from that team next year, because that program has been so far off the college football radar for so long now. not that concerned about it unless something significant happens with them next year and they catch fire and become much better than I think they will be.

Then comes the real make or break three week meat of the schedule with North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame. three tough losses last year, and three games which will most likely break either way and come down to the wire again. I expect the North Carolina and Virginia Tech stretch to determine the winner of the ACC Coastal Division. Notre Dame is a game that I want us to win for both pride and for bowl positioning.

Then we get Virginia at home. I don't know how good or bad Virginia is going to be next year. They were nothing special this year, so we'll see what happens 9 to 10 games next year leading up to them. probably a good team to have sandwiched in between Notre Dame and Pitt.

then we finish the season on the road against Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a good team, well coached team, and playing them in the cold up there is going to be a challenge. however, every game can't be easy, and I say bring it on- let us show them and college football what we are all about at the end of the year. If we have 9 or 10 wins at that point heading into the Pittsburgh game, then we are going to be jacked up and focused and ready to finish strong and get a great bowl game. I think having Pittsburgh at the end of the season is actually good, because we can make a "statement win" with a good win over a good program to possibly impress some voters and where we go to a bowl game. So look at the positive in that respect.

so those are my thoughts. All of this, of course, can change between now and the start of the season, because there are injuries, things that happened in recruiting, etc. So this is all subject to change. but I think that if you are looking at the schedule as a Miami Hurricanss fan, then you have to be pretty excited about how the whole thing lays out top to bottom. I know that I am. I'll be renewing my season tickets before the spring game, and I hope to see a lot of you at the spring game and at the stadium next year.

Thoughts...?

Go Canes!

Prost! (Cheers!)
