Some of ya'll need to get out more and play some golf, or fish, or whatever... lol...
I'm about as anti-Golden as anyone these days, but man even for me I can't bring myself to bang the "Fire Al Golden" drum 24-7 like some fans around town. The effort is truly impressive, but maybe it is time for something else until at least AFTER the SPRING GAME...
My approach during the off-season is pretty simple and straightforward. I look at THREE THINGS/EVENTS from the time the season officially ends until the first game of the next season:
(1) Signing Day- there was a LOT going on in those two to three weeks leadings up to Signing Day, and there were certainly a lot of issues to discuss regarding who we either did or didn't recruit and who we either did or didn't land on Signing Day. Now some people are either overreacting or underreacting to the 2016 Recruiting Class in March of 2015...? lol... I don't think I can name more than three people in the 2016 Recruiting Class as it stands on March 23, 2015. This recruiting stuff changes all of the time- you guys know how this works. It will change more and more and more based on what we win or don't win, when Golden gets fired, and a lot of other variables. I'll start worrying about the 2016 Recruiting Class sometime in January 2016.
(2) Spring Game- some people don't think the Spring Game is a big deal, but I think that it IS a BIG DEAL for several reasons. First, the fans have a chance to tailgate, meet and get together with other fans, get to see some football in 80-85 degree weather. That in and of itself is a good enough reason to go to the Spring Game. From the football standpoint, we get to finally see these guys UP CLOSE and LIVE. I want to see how some of these young guns look in pads. We get to see some positional battles, especially at positions like Tight End and Linebacker. I want to see Rosier's progression as a backup. He should be someone exciting to watch live. I want to see how our punting and kicking game looks in conjunction with our Special Teams, which was a non-factor last year. I want to see how some of the new coaching changes look on the sidelines. So, there are a LOT of reasons to look forward to the Spring Game. It is not just about 2015, but BEYOND in 2016 and 2017 when we hopefully (and finally) bring in a competent coach.
(3) August 1 Depth Chart- this pretty much lets us know who is going to be the starter at each position, and what we can expect on the 2-Deep for the first month or so. It isn't the "end all" depth chart, but at THIS POINT IN TIME on the first day of August, we will know who has stepped up and earned a starting position. This is why I don't understand why so many of you fuss and fight over March and April depth charts... lol... Seems like a waste of energy to me- we haven't even played a Spring Game and yet and people are worried about who is where at the moment. This stuff will flush itself out by August, and even though most of us want Golden fired, PLAYERS will be the ones who will determine who starts and who does not start.
Everything else in between is "empty time" for the fans for the most part, in my opinion.
So, in summary, I'm not trying to tell you what to post and what not to post. If some of you want to spend the vast majority of your time harping on every single second of decision making Golden does in the off-season, have it. lol... Just know that March Madness is on right now, Canes baseball is in progress, the NBA will be entering the playoffs soon. The MASTERS GOLF TOURNAMENT is coming up soon, and for us soccer fans we have the UEFA Tournament, UEFA European Cup qualifying, and other club level seasons coming to a finale. There is a LOT going on right now, so maybe we should just take a small step back, and not take so much of this stuff so seriously... Maybe I AM the one missing something, but I just have a hard time getting worked up over every single thing in the off-season.
Just my honest opinion...
Go Canes...!!!
Prost! (Cheers!)
