For those of you who are saying that THE U is BACK after last night.... Better take a step back and a GOOD LONG DEEP BREATH..
Nothing Happened last Night that Wasn't supposed to happen.. We went out and Creamed a Totally Overmatched opponent.. Big Deal.. There really isn't whole bunch you can take from a Scrimmage like that.. However,, Just watching the Schemes and Styles.. I have huge Concerns when we Take on More Talented Opponents both Offensively and Defensively.. Special Teams I Believe will be MUCH IMPROVED THIS YEAR.. OH.. and One thing this team is Not Short on.. TALENT!!!
OFFENSIVELY:
This Offense has ALL the Ability in the World to be an Elite Offense.. There is Talent on the Field.. Btw. Scott, Dobard, Waters, Yearby, Walton and Gray(Whom I wish they could get More Involved) this Side of the Ball does not Lack Star Power.. The O Line made a Few Mistakes.. BUT We knew they would.. I again am Extremely Confident Kehoe will get the Kinks worked Out sooner Rather than Later..
My BEEF on this side of the Ball... SCHEME.. YEP.. OFFENSIVE SCHEME... And I'm talking About PRE LIGHTNING DELAY.. James Coley is a Recruiting Guru.. And He Does a Great Job with The Quarterbacks.. But a PLAY CALLER or PLAY DESIGN SPECIALIST.. He is NOT!! If Are Game Plan with ALL THOSE PLAYMAKERS we have is to Stretch the Field HORIZONTALLY with all Those SCREENS.. We are In for a LONG LONG YEAR.. Which is Truly Sad.. The WR Screen is the Worst Play ever created.. It Works 1 Time out of 20 and when it Doesn't Work.. You WASTE a DOWN and usually lose yardage...JUST TERRIBLE!.. Now Post Lightning Delay.. They were able to get things going on the Ground.. But That was Bethune Cookman.. With 7:00 left in the 2nd Quarter.. We were only up by 10! You might say.. WELL ITS THE FIRST GAME.. Im not buying that argument.. Post Delay.. I don't know.. It was like offensively we WOKE UP.. but Mark Walton kind of helped with that.. The Kid is the Real deal and I have no Doubt will be the NEXT in a Great Line of Miami Backs if he Stays Healthy... JAMES COLEY.. MAN.. Use what You Have.. Stretch the field VERTICALLY and then come back underneath to ur slot guys and Tight ends.. Dobard, Njoku, and Herndon Can be Used... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE!!! It will make for a more successful Season.. the Running Game and O Line Will take care of Itself if we can do that..
DEFENSIVELY:
Well again.. Its Bethune Cookman... Not much you can Really say bc we did what we were Supposed to do.. We Shut out an Overmatched Team.. I will say this.. Again.. From a SCHEME PERSPECTIVE... I just Cannot get used to the Miami Hurricanes Lining up in that 3/4 Defensive Front.. And Watching those Lineman HOLD at the Point of Attack for the Linebackers and Safeties to Make Plays.. To Me its Just Not Miami Football.. I'm Sorry.. As for the Game.. There was more Penetration from The D LINE.. But Again.. It was Bethune.. It Does Seem that Coach Melvin will make a difference at that position.. The Line seems to be more aggressive than before but only within the Limits of the Golden/Dnofrio Scheme.. Another point to that... THE PERSONNEL on this Defense absolutely Positively SCREAMS.. 4/3 .. I mean It Screams it.. U've got Book Ends C. Thomas, and AQM, Trent Harris, and D. Jackson.. and You could rotate the interior lineman including K Norton.. Who I think is the Best Interior Guy we Have.. I mean.. C'mon.. It could work Wonders.. But I'll stop complaining.. 3/4 it is.. In the Secondary .. We are Stacked.. Teams are gonna have a tough time throwing against us.. Elder, Burns and Howard are Phenominal, Bush Showed up last night.. and Jenkins and Crawford round out a Scary Back End.. If we can only slow down the Sprint Option Run Teams we'll see this year.. I think we could be a Scary D.. Again.. Its Not Talent.. Its Scheme.. But we'll see..
So after those thoughts.. I'd like to say I'll be cheering for this staff to keep trying to fit that Square Peg in the Round Hole.. If they Can.. We will have a Pretty Successful Season.. If we Can't.. Golden is Gone!
