We’ve never been more short staffed and we’ve never been busier. Use to be when somebody walked into my restaurant and you told them we’re on a thirty minute wait they’d say cool, put my name down, I’ll go grab a drink at the bar. Now adays… you tell someone you’re on a thirty minute wait and they look at you like you just insulted their mother. Wtf is going on? Literally zero margin for error. If you screw up on any level people stick the freaking dagger in you. Worst of all, even when you do everything right, you have a ton of people inventing/making up shit to be pissed off about. If that’s not bad enough, you have miserable customers taking it out on other customers just because they’re miserable people looking for someone to take it out on. Anyone that’s been to my establishment will tell you that it’s a class place that I take major pride in. After fourteen years this job is getting harder and harder by the day. Inflation sucks, supply chain sucks, staffing sucks but the general mood of people walking in is truly what’s making the hospitality industry harder than ever before.

if you go out, just be nice! If someones not being nice to you, just ask for the manager. We’re all in it together.

I live in the year round NH vacation mecca called the Mount Washington Valley. Many of the good restaurants are owned by friends of mine and they say the same thing, Our Karens and Keiths are from MA, RI, CT and NY. They make a habit of treating people like shit. I love it when they stop me for directions; I send them on an unforgettable joy ride. Drives my wife nuts.

As President of the Board of my luxury condo I just had to send out a "mind your manners " letter. Most appreciated it. Telling the same people that dogs are not allowed on the pool deck 3 times , telling people to wipe off gym equipment, telling people to be respectful of the staff they are working hard, and to just be a little kind and understanding. People are out of control more than the norm. Fed up with constant outside stressors.
It really is noticeable.

I think you gave me directions once. Really nice scenery though!

A side effect of COVID/The Vax must be mental illness. It seems like the country has gone crazy!

People getting angry at others not wiping down gym equipment are the Karens. Unless it’s egregious, just wipe it yourself, but it likely already evaporated
