i posted this in another thread but thought it would deserved its own due to the fact Mario will probably be a leading candidate if/when the job becomes available.
Here are some pros and cons to Mario being the CEO.
1. He knows and comes from winning. Won 2 national championships as a player. Being under butch , Greg and nick Saban he knows what it takes to build a program and champion.
2. He knows how to put together and surround himself with a good staff and good coaches.
3. He is a beast recruiter in the mold of Saban and Meyer.
4. He took a down trodden program that was hit with sanctions and on probation and turned them into a conference champion and bowl winning team
5. Would recruit like a rock star at Miami. would have Miami continuously in the top 10 of recruiting rankings.
6. Is a south Florida Miami guy. Many college teams are finding success by having coaches that are either familiar with the area of the school or the school. Urban is a Ohio guy, harbaugh is a mich man, Pete Carroll was a west coast Cali guy. Hugh freeze is a Mississippi guy. Sarkisian is a west coast USC guy.
negatives for him:
1. Only small sample size of him at one program. Followed up sussessful season with 3-9 season. Should have left to Rutgers or Pitt to build up his brand.
2. Didn't dominate conference.
3. Does not have a true offensive or defensive identity. He did run a spread offense at FIU and did hire spread OC's but there is still no true identity to his spread like their is with say urban or chip or Gus or art or Kevin. Never was a coordinator like Gus Malzahn, Kevin sumlin, bob stoops, mark stoops or dantonio. Nor did he go and develop a offensive or defensive identity like Urban
Miami needs a guy that understands Miami more now than ever. One of its sons who is a 2 time champion, ran a program where he accomplished more than they did before and have since he left, is being groomed by the best business in for the 4th straight year. While he does have his negatives he does have positives as well. Sarkisian was not accomplishing great things at Washington but he was one of USC own who won their and knows what it takes to win there. It looks like he has USC headed in the right direction and just capped off rivals top recruiting class by keeping a lot of talent home( Serra kids and others). Mario would probably not only do that for Miami but get us back competing nationally for top recruits as well like sark.
