Some individuals have agendas and chose to focus on "the ones that got away" while others prefer to look at the reality of where the program had declined to at the tail end of the Diaz era, where it is now, and where it is vectored to go.

Manny had lost the respect of the players, staff, and fans, as well as the high school coaches in the State of Florida. It was so bad that Manny did not even visit high schools and elite recruits that did visit the Hecht .. never made it to his office. He quit recruiting before mid season .. said "we will use the portal to fill holes". He was done. Toast .. and so was the future of UM football. Fortunately for UM football fans Herbstreit and College Game Day did a solid 6-7 minute segment on "the fall of UM football" highlighting the administrations lack of commitment to winning and the resulting series of poor coaching hires since Butch left in 1999.

When Diaz was fired UM was ranked #57 in recruiting .. and Manny said he was done recruiting. Mario arrived on the scene at the end of the first week in December, basically a week before early signing day. The recruits that were "still on board" had advised that they were "now scheduling other visits" and Mario worked quickly to solidify their commitments, he pulled a miracle move by getting both Moss and Kelly .. top 100 recruits .. the two highest rated players in the class .. so sign early as well. Today he signed an OL, a DT, and a highly regarded RB that was wanted very much by Oklahoma / Clemson and others.

UM's recruiting class on 247 sports is NOW the highest rated in the State of Florida .. and it's not done yet:

#14. (up from #57 in November ) UM. 13 recruits ( 10 four star and 3 three star).
#19. FSU. 16 recruits ( 6 four star and 10 three star).
#20. UF. 16 recruits (7 four star and 9 three star).

Anybody that is blasting Mario saying he was "cucked" and is not closing .. is really understating his impact and the great job that he IS doing. 8 weeks to recruit ... starting in mid December when 99.9% of all recruits have basically made their decisions. Very difficult position to be in .. and UM now has the #14 ranked class .. and could potentially still make a top 10. Incredible. Imagine with a 10 win regular season and a full year to recruit and develop relationships? Just named on of the top DC's in the NCAA .. and an OC will be named soon. Very glad I renewed my season tickets. Go Canes!!
