Exactly!Wow. One of my all time favorites. He came up the hard way and had to earn everything he got. RIP Marvelous.
MARVELOUS BEAT SUGAR RAY!!!!
That should be on his tombstone RIP legend!
Loved him. One of the best fights Hagler vs Leonard. Watched it at the original Diplomat Hotel Closed Circuit TV a huge party. The fight could have been called either way but went to Leonard and Hagler never got over it.RIP “The Marvelous” one!
No MasHagler, Leonard, Duran and Hearns. Great fighters. Great fights. Great memories.
Another childhood hero gone. As long as I live, I will never see 3 rounds of boxing better than the Hearns/Hagler fight. RIP Marvelous
Yeah that was a shock, always thought Marvin was immortal!Marvin Hagler
RIP
Round 6 against " The Beast" Mugabe was amazing.Another childhood hero gone. As long as I live, I will never see 3 rounds of boxing better than the Hearns/Hagler fight. RIP Marvelous

Glory days of boxing man. Duran, Hearns, Hagler, etc. Those were my heroes as a kid. My dad was on the Ohio Boxing Commission, so I grew up reading The Ring and going to local fights (Lindell Holmes fought out of Kronk) he was from Toledo so would fight at the Hotel Sofitel downtown when it was around. I was about 15 and got to meet Tommy Hearns, who showed up at the fight. It was like meeting God for me at the time.Round 6 against " The Beast" Mugabe was amazing.
Wow, you really had an inside view to boxing in those days. The Golden Age of Boxing for sure to include Ray Leonard.Glory days of boxing man. Yeah, I never got to go to the fights (outside of a few minor bouts), but my dad always watched the televised ones (so we did as well). Shame Miami doesn’t host the big fights anymore. It was before I lived here, but the OB hosted one of the greatest - Pryor v Arguello (1982).Wow, you really had an inside view to boxing in those days. The Miami Beach boxing club had some good fighters. Glen Wolfe fought James Toney and Roy Jones Jr. Took Toney to 12 rounds but lost the decision. Roy Jones Jr knocked him out with a body shot in the first round at Caesars in Vegas. Freddy Pendleton came out of that club as well. I was at the Roy Jones Jr fight in Vegas . Met George Forman who was the announcer for the HBO fight. Miami Beach club had an affiliation with Don King.Yeah, I never got to go to the fights (outside of a few minor bouts), but my dad always watched the televised ones (so we did as well). Great stuff. Btw, I rewatched the Hagler v Mugabi fight today. I had forgotten how ridiculous that fight was. Mugabi was 25-0 coming into that fight, and had completely annihilated people (all wins were by KOs and TKOs). He trained so hard for that fight, and had injured sparring partners so bad, it made the news. And my God, that 6th round as you pointed out.The Miami Beach boxing club had some good fighters. Yes, that 6th round was something out of Hollywood. Incredible action. Mugabe was one tough fighter. Up until the Hagler fight I don't believe he was ever knocked down.Great stuff. Just for perspective, If i took a punch from sugar ray in his prime and lived to tell about it, it would be an accomplishment.MARVELOUS BEAT SUGAR RAY!!!!

I have a story for that one. I was a senior at Beach High. They were going to show the fight closed circuit at the Miami Beach Convention Center. There was no pay-per-view in 1985. I asked my parents to buy me a ticket. But when I applied to college, UF was my first choice. I waited so long to follow up, that UF ran out of on campus dorms. I didn't want to live off campus as a freshman. So I moved on to FSU. But my folks were pissed that I took such a casual, laissez faire attitude towards going to college. So they wouldn't buy me the ticket. But my grandmother did. She drove down from (what is now Aventura), somehow found her way to the Miami Beach Convention Center, bought a ticket for me and that was my birthday gift on March 9, 1985. The fight was the next day.Round 6 against " The Beast" Mugabe was amazing.
I was at the MBCC that night with my dad watching that fight. Was all in on Mugabi since Hagler had beat my favorite, Duran, and I just wanted to see him get beat.I have a story for that one. Was a lot of fun. Hagler won and 5 years later I realized that I "fell into" the better school between UF and FSU.

Duran was 25 lbs above his natural weight and kinda old. And Hagler won that fight by like 1 point. That highlights the greatness of Duran.RIP Champ. You will be missed
That's a tough one...I think I would lean towards Hagler. I think that while both fighters could go toe to toe with the best, Hagler just seems to be the tougher of the two in a all out war as proven by Hagler in the Mugabe fight. Jones was quicker than a guy like Mugabe so a fight with Hagler likely would not have been fought the same way. Hagler beat some great fighters along the way. I don't know, tough call....It was really FUN! There were a lot of CHARACTERS at the MBCC that night!!!
But the question still remains. Prime Hagler vs Prime Roy Jones?
Yes sir and not to mention he fractured his right hand in the 4th/5th round on Haglers dome. Epic fight which doesnt get the recognition it deserves.Duran was 25 lbs above his natural weight and kinda old. And Hagler won that fight by like 1 point. That highlights the greatness of Duran.
