HC Mack Brown has named Gene Chizik as the Heels’ new defensive coordinator. He replaces Jay Bateman.
Chizik last coached at UNC under Larry Fedora in 2015-2016. Since then, he’s been at ESPN, usually with the SEC Network. Chizik coached under Brown at Texas and won a national title as HC at Auburn in 2010.
UNC was a preseason top 10 pick but finished the year 6-7. Their D was ranked 95th in total D but was 105th in scoring D and yards allowed per play.
Unfortunately, our D wasn’t any better when we played them.
