Let's Start with the Positives:
(1) Great job by the defense. A shutout, didn't allow them to cross mid-field until :30 left in the game. Gang tackling, got after the QB, and secondary played much cleaner. Patchan had a damn good game.
(2) WIDE RECEIVERS...!!! GREAT JOB CATCHING...!!! Did we have any drops...? Thought Pope, Hightower, and Harley did a GREAT job catching. Jarren was off on about 5 throws in the first half and the guys did a great job adjusting and hanging on to the ball. Really encouraging to see the Wide Receiver play.
(3) Hedley continues to show that he is a top-10/top-15 NCAA punter. Guy is a weapon, and he can flip field position and coffin corner punt VERY well. Hats off to the guy.
(4) Turnovers- NONE! Great job all around.
(5) Penalties- NOT MANY! Great job all around.
(6) RBs- great job running the ball. Dominatined on the ground.
Negatives...
(1) Look, you can't say the offense is fine just by looking at the scoreboard and saying we hung 63. I predicted that we would win 56-10. Think ALMOST EVERYONE said we would hang 50+. The point is that we had a mere 7-0 lead after the first 15-20 minutes. 1-5 on 3rd Down at Halftime. We were stuffed on 4th and 1 in the redzone and Tate was non-effective on his package play the play before the 4th down play. Overall, Enos had no rythm with the passing game in the first half. Being up 7-0 on Bethune is like being DOWN 10-0/17-0 to a real opponent. It's just not acceptable, especially when the defense is absolutely SHUTTING Bethune down and giving the offense great field positiion all first half. This game was about firing on all pistons on offense, and we clearly didn't do that. I don't have much faith in Enos right now, and I don't care how many points we hung, because we were always going to blow out this team. We need FAST STARTS on offense guys.
(2) Baxa... Just terrible. Manny needs to hold open compeittion for kicker and start recruiting a kicker. We've seen what bad kicking has done to use the first two games. We're going to be in some tight ball games last 9 games here, and not having a reliable kicker is a SERIOUS problem.
(3) Punt Return/Kick Return... Not so much a negative, but sucks we couldn't see any improvement here. Bethune's punter punted out of bounds all game to prevent JT4 from returning, and we shut them out, so all we had for a kickoff return was the one on the opening kickoff of the game.
BONUS POSITIVES... Great to tailgate at the stadium again this afternoon, and great to see a lot of guys play. We needed to get a lot of guys a lot of reps. Glad to see Kosi play well and get some quality reps too. Need to duplicate this performance next week, except get off to a fast start and dominate the first half. Playcalling/scheming must improve!
