I keep seeing how we have been rebuilding since 2001. Well, first thing is every time we bring in a new coach it is a rebuild. The clock doesn't start in 2001. The clock starts with the new coach. I'm sure a lot of Miami fans don't want to hear that. It's just the realistic view.
Nobody likes to lose. Everyone gets angry and wants to strike out at other posters.....but you don't realize that this team had a lot to fix when it is inconvenient for you to realize this. Problems in my view that go much deeper than talent just talent alone. We can always use more talent but we have to get guys that understand how to win football games. While we have a fan base that views Miami as if it is 2001. Just can't understand why we aren't blowing everyone out....because we are running out there with a U on our head. Nobody but you cares! In fact it is a bigger target if anything.
To fix this I think we just have to get the right personnel. People say that special teams isn't as important as offense and defense and still believe this fallacy....but I can tell you this. If we had our special teams performing at a high level we would probably be undefeated right now. We need someone else coaching special teams. The job is just not getting done in our kicking game. I think it goes back to when Braxton used to get killed here for not being Devin Hester. You win games just by not muffing the kick. I love the punter but we need to stop with these perferred walk ons and over rated kickers from kicking schools. Let's get some high level kickers out there that perform in games.
On offense I think if we fix our offensive line but keeping them together, we get them the reps needed to develop them. That allows us to open our playbook. Fix the line and we will fix this offense.
On defense they just need to tackle better. The reps will make a difference. We will grow up in the back end and we will be fine.
I get all the panic but I am not exactly surprised by our struggles. I had us at 9/10 wins with the season started. I didn't anticipate we couldnt kick the ball though. You can't win anything without kicking the ball through the uprights.
