Ive seen a lot of discussion on the board regarding what should be the salary # for different guys. Most people here are focusing on what the market value for a guy is and what salary should that be. The decision on salary will be based on more factors than that and one in particular that shouldn't be overlooked is the marketing and signaling effects that the salary offer can have. You pay a guy 4mil a year you tell people hes a good coach and we're willing to make a little bit bigger of a commitment to winning than we've had previously . You pay a guy 7 mil a year and you tell people your guy is a rockstar and immediately undo every BS narrative that every recruit coach and fan has heard for a decade that we dont have what it takes to get back to winning titles. Do not sleep on that component of this. It *WILL* be a factor. It's not just paying based on who the guy is, its paying based in part on what we want the football world to think about who the guy is.
