In today's world, is it costs BIG money! You buy out the contract of your existing coach and his staff plus the contracts of the target coach. Next year, because coaching contracts get larger each year, the cost to do this goes up.
UM BOT appears committed to spending $25+ million toward "improving athletics," whatever that means. Some members don't want to spend it on buy outs.
I can see UM keeping Manny another year, spending the money and then realizing in 2022 that Manny needs to go. But, the $25m has been spent and they have no money money to buy out coaching contracts.
