I just got around to watching it the other night and a few things struck me...
I always had the impression it was all about Butch. He did a great job of recruiting, instilling discipline and putting together a great staff, but it was the players who pushed that team over the top.
Production value of the movie was weak, but it was entertaining.
It makes me wonder what kind of fire this 2015 team has in them. They don't have comparable talent but maybe they've had enough mediocrity and are going to show us something this year.
- The turnaround was about the players. They had great coaching for sure but they got pissed off and tired of losing so they decided that was it, they were going to do whatever it took to win and payback teams that had beaten them.
- Al Blades was the de facto leader of that team and he was a fireball to say the least.
- They competed so hard against each other the receivers wouldn't even talk to the DB's during the spring.
- Practice was so competitive, the games were easy because they were going against lesser talent.
- The coaches pissed them off with some defensive calls that cost them a game and they rebelled. They let the coaches know how they felt and changes were made.
- Butch was done with Mcgahee at RB. Soldinger snuck him in for one play and he scored on a long TD and saved his spot as RB.
- It didn't matter who coached them when Butch left. They were going to win unless some coach came in and screwed it up.
