I’m not sure why anyone is surprised by the results so far. I told you this was going to happen days after the Manny hire. Blake tried to be smarter than the rest of the winning programs in the country and that strategy rarely works. UM is about marketing. Their entire department is about marketing. Manny got the job bc he understands the marketing piece of the business. I was never told this was a football decision in my conversations with the department: it was all about marketing and understanding the “culture.” When you try to outsmart people, this is what you get. Even the Enos hire wasn’t about what type of offense he would run or how it would translate on the field: instead, the message I received from the department was, “we got the QB coach from Alabama:”. Again, all about optics.
This was all about Blake making the choice to hire Manny after Manny asked for the job. One of Blake’s major downfalls is that he is a fan as much as anything and we ALL know that fans of Miami can be irrational. Blake wanted to believe the issues at Miami last year were all the result of CMR and that’s absurd. The inventor of sideline jewelry got the job as a result with no hiring process. Serious question: if we are down 40 and score a TD, do we still give out the touchdown rings? All of it is absurd and anyone who falls for the words of this department is a silly group.
I’ve put my money where my mouth is and renewal will not be happening for me moving forward. I will pay my debt to the program and I will move on.
