I heard on the news it was the USCG that investigated this guy CD. That said, I’m sure the FBI, ATF were likely brought in.
Thankful to the Coast Guard personnel who tipped off their superiors.
Through this guy’s readings and research, he was looking to take out as many as he could......not just the names of the perceived liberal media personnel and select others who are members of congress and TV pundits, or select liberal-leaning pundits.

The fbi love to come to the briefing and leave then say they led the investigation. Literally sat in an Intel briefing last week. Two of their analyst showed up and left about halfway through. That’s why nobody likes working with them.
Maybe so cash, but the news I watched said it was a USCG-led investigation. Probably their equivalent (CGIS), similar to the Army’s CID or Navy-Marine NCIS.

Wouldn’t doubt it... to file a criminal complaint with the US Attorney’s Office though they may have had to use them. I don’t think they can file criminal charges on a non military entity without DOJ.
Cash , Maybe I’m reading you wrong. The terrorist was a USCG LT, so UCMJ, apprehension, all that would apply; however, they would “likely” get civilian law enforcement (FBI, ATF, US Marshall to make the arrests (and prosecute) if the LT were apprehended off base.
Depends on how they charge it. If that member was an active member and investigation was initiated by internal investigations then I suspect it’ll be a court Marshall kind of deal. Sounds like it was maybe the fbi counter intel that got him.
