Going to 2-4 really puts our bowl eligibility in jeopardy, in my opinion. Still 2 tough road games @ FSU, and @ Pitt, and a competitive 3-2 Louisville team right now. No gimmies at this point. Margin of error for bowl eligibility is between Slim and None, with Slim barely leading None at the moment.
Kosi starting tomorrow, regardless of JW's injury, was the right decision. Again, career TD-INT ratio is about the same between Kosi and JW. The REAL noticeable difference right now between JW and Kosi is Completions per Touchdown- JW is 12.99, and Kosi 7.27 (and that was with the CMR shit show last year). When you're BOTTOM TEN in 3rd Down % (.292/125th), getting more of those big plays down the field is massive, like we saw against VT.
Kosi has his flaws, but we saw him throw away the ball against VT to avoid negative yardage plays, check down, and move around the pocket to reset the pocket. I think that he's going to be good against UVA. UVA gets after the QB- 2nd in Sacks (4.80 SPG), as we have seen with Mack and Taylor in the FSU/Pitt games. But UVA is 45th in 3rd Down % Defense (.338), 40th in Scoring Defense (21.41 PPG), 107th in Turnovers Gained (5), and 82nd in Red Zone Defense (.858). So, there are points that can be scored on this UVA defense. Continue to get JT4 the ball the way we did against VT to help Brevin and Harley, and use the SCREEN GAME! We've averaged 4.24 First Quarter Points last 4 games! Need to SCORE FIRST.
On Defense, we need to SET THE TONE. UVA is scoring mid to high 20s on offense against Power-5 teams- not explosive, but Bryce Perkins will be similar to VT's Hooker. Must contain/limit the QB runs, especially on 3rd Down. Perkins is UVA's #2 rusher. Defense needs to start forcing more turnovers and getting sacks/TFLs to force bad down and distances for opponents.
Special Teams is still a train wreck. All I can say is, pray. It's been a TOTAL FAILURE this season, except for Punting. Kicking is a disaster, we don't block FGs, we don't block Punts, and I've seen zero impact in the Punt/Kickoff return game. Who TF is coaching this awful unit. It's 1/3 of a football team!
Ultimately, I think we come out on our opening drive and Kosi leads us to an early touchdown. We get a turnover, and Kosi leads another touchdown drive. Awesome start for us, but UVA comes back and gets a FG, and it is 14-3 after the 1st Quarter. I think that things slow down in the 2nd Quarter, and its a defensive struggle, with both teams exchanging FGs, and we take a 17-6 lead at Halftime. UVA comes out with better Halftime adjustments and scores a TD, while we struggle to get going on offense. 17-13 after the 3rd Quarter. I think our defense comes to the rescue in the 4th Quarter and sets us up with a short field and Kosi engineers another TD to take a 24-13 lead; UVA scores late to make it 24-20, but we hang on for an emotional, close win. Kosi finishes with 250 or so passing yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. DeeJay/Cam run the ball just well enough and 1 of them gets a TD.
