I am wondering what others opinions are on something I see as hampering us on the field. I see a few key players who we counted on being difference makers are actually Tweeners without optimal size of skillset for the positions they are playing.
I see Elijah Roberts at 6'4" 270 not having enough explosiveness at DE to be an impact player there but not heavy enough to play at DT which is where I thought he was recruited to play.
I see Leonard Taylor, DT listed at 6'3" 305 but he looks lean to me. Seems like he should either drop some weight and play DE or get bigger and stronger for DT. Admittedly this evaluation may be too early as he is just a true FR and will probably make a big jump going into next year.
Avery Huff was a highly touted athlete coming out of High School that we expected to be a difference maker. Besides looking lost often on the field, he is still vastly undersized to play LB after spending plenty of time in the program. Not sure he ever turns into the player we thought we were getting.
Jame Williams looks like a stud but not sure S is the best spot for him at 6'5" 224 as a true Freshman. Really think he could be a difference maker if grown to 235 as an OLB. He seems to have natural pass rushing skills. I'm not totally convinced he can't grow into a twitchy DE at around 255 that I think his frame could eventually handle.
Thomas Davis, who I believe is hurt is another one I questioned his positioning. He was a great pass rusher in High School but seemed like somebody to learn OLB who could still rush the passer. He is only 6'2" 220 but Manny has always said they see him as a DE. I don't agree with some of these assessments of talents/size and the positions they are playing.
Wonder if anyone else feels the same way.
