I'll be glad to discuss border security policy with you. First I want you to answer the question. What Democrats are for open borders? You made this claim that the party favors open borders. Now either backup your bullshit or just admit you are wrong.
Lol....let’s you and I discuss it. I just want to know what the democrats hope for at the borders. You and cems have both claimed to want tough border control but I can’t figure out what exactly you’d like to see.
Well as I hope you know it's a complicated issue. People on the right want to make it sound like a simple problem with a simple solution. If it were then it would have been solved decades ago.
Now I'm assuming you're asking me what I'd like to see as far as dealing with immigrants once they are apprehended. First of all, the immigrants that are not seeking asylum and just simply crossed the border need to be deported. And you can do this without separating families and trying to prosecute every single person when we don't have the resources to do so. Bush and Obama enforced the border in this manner with a few exceptions for various reasons.
For asylum seekers I think they have a right to a hearing as they always have. The question is do you detain and separate or "catch and release." Obama enacted two programs that resulted in 99% and 97% of asylum seekers showing up for their court date. The cost of these programs is significantly less than detaining them, families aren't separated, and they go through the asylum process. To me that's the more efficient way to go.

I’d start with the wall. I’d also provide additional resources (money, equipment, and personnel) to I.C.E.
All immigrants attempting to cross illegally from this point forward would be placed on a barment list, deported immediately, and no longer illegible to enter our country. My thoughts on this is if you’re willing to break our laws getting in then you obviously have no regard for our law.
I would require all personnel seeking asylum to register through our embassies with an expedited review process. All personnel seeking asylum would be vetted for criminal or terrorist affiliations and disqualified from entry if found during our review. If individuals showed up at the border, they would be denied entry and treated as illegal immigrants unless they had registered and been vetted at the embassies. If already registered, they would be placed in hold facilities in categories (families, men, women, children) and giving their hearing. If denied, they’d be deported immediately. If approved, I would allow them entry on an approved visitor Visa for up to 5 years. During that time they would be required to learn the English language, assimulate within our society, and at the end become a legal immigrants. If they did not meet the conditions, be it their failure to meet the conditions or they were convicted of a crime, they (to include family members) would be deported. If by chance a family entered and had separated then I.C.E. would have to be immediately notified and information updated to reflect them as separate categories.
As for those already in the country. They would have to immediately register with I.C.E.. They would be vetted and placed on work Visas if appropriate. Let me get your thoughts on this. The number of illegal immigrants living in the US has been stable for about 12 years at least. Depending on the source the numbers have been stable at 11 or 12 million since 2005. Apprehensions at the border have declined significantly since 2000 including during the Trump presidency. In 2000 1.6 million people were apprehended. In 2017 it was 300,000.
Given that illegal population has remained stable and fewer people are even trying to get in the country, why all of a sudden is there this dire need to spend billions on a wall? The numbers don't support the Trump rhetoric that our country is being overrun with illegals.
It’s not only the illegals but drugs coming across the borders that’s a problem Lou. That aside, considering we’ve had 12 million already come, and more coming every day, it’s probably the cheapest long term solution. Now for a minute just think what may happen when/if we give those that have come a pathway to citizenship or deport them for cause if my suggestion were implemented. Will more rush to the border in hopes they too will get accepted? So putting the stop gaps in place first is essential, followed by reasonable measures who have already entered.
Drugs are mostly smuggled via vehicles coming through ports of entry. A wall will not help that problem.

Exactly the reasons I gave. Illegal population has been stable for over a decade proving that we are not being overrun with illegals like Trump says. Apprehensions are way down showing that fewer people are trying to come in. A wall will not help the drug smuggling through ports of entry. So why spend 80 billion on a wall?
Why would you want the Gov to run what is going to be the biggest industry in the Future? Why would you want the Gov to decide who live and who dies? Look no further than the VA and your local “health department”. It’s a damn joke. The last thing we want to Gov to have control of is health care. We’ll be paying 50% taxes in about 30 years and the level of care would absolutely suck. They should help in lower the cost by helping the free market, that’s about it.

Dems need votes to stay in power. They are trying to replace the black vote with poor immigrants. Their will always be people that believe the whole “we’re gong to tax the rich and give to the poor” talk. As we’ve seen that didn’t work. Education brings people out of poverty not the Gov. notice the Gov runs public schools and we’re ranked 15th in the world.
Great, we’ve been free for over 200 years, and are 2-0 in world wars. We have the strongest military, and it’s becuse we’re willing to spend. It’s one of the few things I think the Gov should run. It’s the Govs responsibility to protect its citizens and worth paying taxes for.

300,000 are apprehended at the border. If 300,000 illegals were entering per year than the illegal population would continue to increase. Again it has not.
