Looks like African American Sanders Socialist will be the democrat nominee for FL Gov

One of the biggest upsets in Florida Democrat history. This was shocking. Gillum was the Tallahassee mayor. He is a HUGE liberal, but he is good-looking, articulate, smart, and carries himself VERY well. His far-left liberal policies appall me and are a disgrace, but he will be a bona fide threat in the General Election come November.

TALLAHASSEE — Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum failed to disclose two mortgages on legally required financial disclosure forms going back to 2014, publicly available records show.

Gillum, who is a Democratic candidate for governor, said he would file amended financial disclosure reports after he was asked about the issue on Tuesday by POLITICO.

“Like the vast majority of people, Mayor Gillum owes a mortgage on his home, and we’re going to file the updated forms shortly,” said Geoff Burgan, a Gillum spokesman.

Burgan said that the mortgages were not disclosed because of an "accidental mistake."

Overall, Gillum failed to disclose two mortgages totaling $423,665, including one for his family‘s homein Tallahassee. State ethics laws require state officials to report any debts worth more than $10,000.

The state capital’s mayor since 2014, Gillum is young at 39, black (he would also be Florida’s first black governor), and pretty far to the left ideologically. He received the endorsement of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Our Revolution, and Democracy for America in the primary. He has proposed hiking the state’s corporate tax rate to fund education, raising its minimum wage to $15, and he endorsed a Medicare-for-all single-payer health care system at the national level.

Gillum also supports expanding Medicaid under Obamacare, which Florida has thus far refused to do, leaving hundreds of thousands of its poorest residents without coverage. He has also joined with other progressive leaders who want to abolish the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency after the family separations crisis.

There is also, however, an ongoing FBI investigation into corruption in the Tallahassee city government — though Gillum has not been implicated in any way, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Another Socialist nominated by the Dems. I can’t believe how far the party has fallen.
This guy is a joke. He won because the stupid Dems split the other votes 3 ways. The moderates that voted for Graham, Levine and Greene sure won't vote for a tax crazy giveaway Socialist.

Big Problem, hell this guy could get indicted.

That's the direction where the populist side of the party is headed in. If you looks at Medicare for All and education, they are receiving majority support across the board, and its the Bernie wing who are pushing those policies.

Can't win with that ideology unless it is district or state-specific. CA, NYC, South Florida, Chicago, etc.

That may have been the case a few years ago but the fact that Sanders came from single digits to nearly beat Hillary in the primaries, as well as the favorable polling for healthcare (medicare for all) and education (tuition free at state schools) suggests progressive candidates are going to be a major factor going forward.

Raoul, the Nov 2016 general election map looked like a sea of red even when a moderate-left candidate like Hillary was the candidate. Bernie would have won CA, NY, VT, DC. Maybe WA and OR. That won't get it done.

He would've outperformed Hillary. Remember that elections are all about turning your base out. Hillary had very little base appeal which is why her vote was suppressed in key areas (despite still trouncing Trump by 3million in the popular vote). Bernie has the ability to get large swaths of the Dem base, as well as large swaths of independents to show up because he supports very popular policies. This is the sort of enthusiasm that is required to not just to win, but win in a landslide.

On the other hand, it is good for the Republicans if these kinds of loons keep getting nominated so I won't protest too much.

in 2016 Sanders couldn't have done better in these couple states? Of course he would have. This election was effectively decided by 107,000 people in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Trump won the popular vote there by that combined amount. That amounts to 0.09 percent of all votes cast in this election.

Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania account for 46 electoral votes. If Clinton had won these states, she could have sealed the presidency with 274 total electoral votes.

As always the key to Democrat success, is to herd the sheep in densely populated areas, bus them in, feed them, pay them, and give them their marching orders.

It will be cheaper than the current system. We currently spend 10k per person in this country. The new system will reduce the cost down to about 6-7k per person. No more deductibles, co-pays, and high prescription costs.

Yup, ObamaCare was so incredibly affordable and efficient. So much so that its abolition got Trump elected as one of his top initiatives. smh.

It was a half hearted attempt at universal healthcare that was constantly undermined by Republican opposition. Bound to fall short without more support.

The polling on healthcare has evolved since the early Obamacare days. People no longer view healthcare as a commodity that can be exploited by markets, they instead view it as a basic right of paying taxes just as people view the military. Its simply inclusive of citizenship.
