It Means 12-24 games i.e. 1 to 2 years...
Mack Brown didn't hit double digit wins at Texas until is FOURTH year...
Chris Peterson won't hit double digit wins at Washington until his THIRD year (this year)...
Dabo Sweeney didn't hit double digit wins at Clemson until his THIRD year...
Mark Dantonio didn't hit double digit wins at Michigan State until his FOURTH year...
Brett Bielema didn't hit double digit wins at Wisconsin until his FOURTH year...
Rich Rod didn't hit double digit wins at West Virginia until his FIFTH year...
Mike Riley had 1 ten win season at Oregon State and went 6-6 last year before turning it around...
There are a LOT of GOOD coaches in college football who needed 2, 3, 4, years to finally get a quality program turned around in the right direction.
Some of you think Mark Richt is Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, or Jim Harbaugh... He isn't... Mark Richt is closer to the list above, or even slightly better than that list, then he is to Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh... Unless you're getting a top-5 college football coach, things WILL take some time to turn around for the better.
I have always considered Richt a B+ head coach who, with the right staff, can be an A- head coach here winning 10/11 games per year... But I can't expect the man to turn things around uber pronto within 6-9 games...
Some of you allowed the blowouts of FAMU, FAU, and App State to unreasonably elevate your expectations of what you want this team to be as opposed to who they really are right now... I DO EXPECT to see ADJUSTMENTS made during the course of the season to show progress- we've seen it some areas, we haven't seen it i others i.e. the offense. However, I hope that we we will see more of it the next 3-5 games... I will ULTIMATELY come to the conclusion as to whether Richt can succeed long term here as both an OC and head coach after a good 18-24 games... I expect to see improvement fast, but not THAT fast... I need to see how he can improve the offensive line, work with Brad for another off-season, and add much needed depth at key positions... If we are not at least 10-2 by the end of next year, then at THAT POINT IN TIME I think we have the right to at least consider some changes... We are paying this coaching staff a lot to win games sooner than later, so........ But I never expected a "turn-key" success this season the way some people here seem to be expecting... I thought 9-3 was the minimum, but I completely underestimated just how bad the offensive line is this year...
So, if we finish 8-4 but win our bowl game and go 9-4 out of the gate first year under Richt, then all things considered, is it really that gloom and doom...? For me, no... But, alas, you are all entitled to your respective opinion... I think there has to be a balance between expectations and reality.
