The 761st Tank Battalion. I meant to do this on 11/11/2020. This unit served during World War 2 and was a separate Tank Battalion of US Army. This unit was made up primarily African American soldiers, who by US Dept. of War Policy were not permitted to serve along side White Troops; the US military did not officially desegregate until after WW2. The 761st were known as The Black Panthers after their unit's distinctive insignia, which featured a Black Panther's head; their motto was "Come Out Fighting." The battalion received a presidential citation for its actions. In addition, a large number of individual members also received medals, including one Medal Of Honor, 11 Silver Stars and 300 purple hearts. The unit has been called one of the most effective units in WW2.
The 761st was activated on April 01, 1942 at Camp Clairborne, Louisiana and deployed to Europe, Landing on Omaha Beach in France on October 10, 1944. The Battalion trained at Fort Hood, Texas, where they were rated superior by 2nd Army Commander Lt. General Ben Lear.

This group of men are not as well known as the Texas Battalion who were the 1st unit to make an assault on German units in Bifontaine, France. We should never forget all Americans who were part of the greatest generation; that is why I brought this up.
