That's the word coming from the new NCAA Football Oversight Committee chairman and Big 12 commish Bob Bowlsby. Don't know who he got this from specifically, but he says there are people inside the ACC who want to split the conference into 3 divisions so it can place two higher-ranked teams in the conference title game and in turn, strengthen its position with
the playoff selection committee.

Maybe they want to avoid ACC teams from cannibalizing each other during the season (like the SEC West did this past year), maybe they want teams to schedule more top-ranked out-of-conference opponents since, hypothetically, there would be fewer division games to play and maybe they want to do this to offset the power and image of the SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12 etc.

Maybe, maybe, maybe.

Of course, there's one little issue to resolve: the conference has only 14 teams so where is the 15th school? Might this be enough to get Notre Dame to jump in with both feet?

If the ACC were successful, do the other conferences follow? Lots to chew on so what say U?

BTW, the Bowlsby info in the first paragraph is courtesy of collegefootballtalk.com.
